Crashing into star destroyers

is this a viable tactic for attacking SD's?i haven't seen the films in aaaages, and have no idea if shields or whatever where up when fighters crash into SDs. Someone PLEASE refresh my memory, cos i really can't remember crap.

Watch TESB again. Huge asteroids are effortlessly disentigrated on ISD's shields. In ROTJ, there is a scene where a Y-Wing crashes into an ISD, and is destroyed on its shields. Another incident would be when a TIE smashes itself into a Mon Cal cruiser at high speeds, and is desroyed, causing no damage to the Mon Cal. When the A-Wing crashes through the Executor's window, the shields were down.

X-wing PC game. in the X-Wing PC Game you could take out an ISD with just a Y-Wing, 2 proton torps for each shield generator (shields down) and then your favourite flavour of cannon, be it Ion or otherwise to take it down. And arent all Lucasarts games approved by Mr Lucas beforehand?

-- In Later games Tie Fighter and Xwing vs Tie Fighter it was a little harder but you could still take one out with a squadron of X-Wings\B-Wings.

yeh, my brother says something similar about x wing versus tie fighter, but that one apparently had more input from george lucas.
BTW i found the shields section on this page, heroes i say.

Because games are fucked up things, In Starcraft one marine with a machine gun can kill a fucking battlecruiser. If the game was made as things are suposed to be no one would play because it'd be too fucking hard. I know you dumb but try and use that wee lump of lard between your ears. Also read the fucking announcement board where it says game story lines are the lowest form of canon and game mechanics don't even get mentioned. Serriously read the site before making stupid fucking comments.

It was neither new nor a 'slant', I'm afraid to inform you. It's a tired, old arguement that depends on ignorance of Canon policy. Game mechanics are to make the game fun, not realistic. If players want to fight against SDs without being totally anhilated, they'll fudge all the numbers they want to make it possible. Therefore, it's never considered an accurate depiction of how Star Wars works, so don't use it again.

well, that said, star destroyers are generally crap at shooting down fighters to my recollection.
ISD's are built to kill Cap ships. Using a ship that costs as much resources to build as a ISD is kinda over kill thats why ISD's carry fighters and are often accompanyed by anti-starfighter cap-ships.

Really. Only one of two fighters trying to ram the Executor's bridge makes it all the way, and was still damaged in the attempt. Thats a minimum of 50% chance to kill the fighter. You call that crap?

I would assume that that is because you are a moron.

In real life, accuracy using guns (not missiles) agaisnt planes is pretty poor, hence the reason they use flak instead of straight shells.

The most "realistic" starfighter games that are out is Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter, in those 2 you need capships to take out other capships, the biggest thing you can take out with a starfigter would be the Trade Federation troop dropships.

Something else to remeber in ANH TIE fighters account for most of the rebel kills over the Death Star and only Vaders Wing was launched.
