Interestin' flyover...
The Commemorative Air Force's B-17G, Sentimental Journey, just flew over the house. At about 1000 feet.
Less than a half mile away, there was an Apache Longbow at almost the same altitude, flying in a different direction. Nice juxtaposition.

I want an F-117 flying alongside a Lancaster. One burns cities, the other strikes with precision.

Speaking of the CAF, I just saw the current projects of the Florida chapter, Valiant Air Command. They just finished an old Wildcat, and are working on an F9F-9 Panther and a Me 209 4-person transport. The only problem with the 209 is it was French-built...all the instructions are in French and the Frogs won't share their diagrams of where instruments go. They took something like 7,000 hours to translate the directions. Also, it was sabotaged in the factory, so every part has to be inspected for damage and repaired or replaced if the Free French got to it. If I can find a scanner, I'll post pics in A&P.Frank Hipper wrote:The Commemorative Air Force's B-17G, Sentimental Journey, just flew over the house. At about 1000 feet.

BTW, would've been cooler if it was Fifi . Still darn cool, though.

Shouldn't that be a ME 108, the 209 was a fighter prototype...The Dark wrote:Speaking of the CAF, I just saw the current projects of the Florida chapter, Valiant Air Command. D'oh...it's an Me 208. It's not a 108, 108 was a two-seater. I saw the cabin, this definitely holds four. As soon as I read your post, I remembered the 209 was the advanced form of the 109. It's been a long day .Frank Hipper wrote:Shouldn't that be a ME 108, the 209 was a fighter prototype...The Dark wrote:Speaking of the CAF, I just saw the current projects of the Florida chapter, Valiant Air Command. Probably the one decked out like 909, that travels with a B-24 that looks like Five Grand (and may be, though I don't think so).
Howedar is no longer here. Need to talk to him? Talk to Pick.
Lucky you.TrailerParkJawa wrote:I got to ride on a B-17 two summers ago. Not sure if it was the one you saw. Rides were $350 bucks each. My dad was nice enough to buy me a ride as a present.
I really wanted to ride in the B-24 that was there too, but beggars cant be chosers.

The F-15 barely keeping over stall speed and the P-51 running flat out, I take it?Stormbringer wrote:And the one with the F-15 and the P-51's flying wing is a sweet shot too.
It's not my place in life to make people happy. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to watch me slaughter cows you hold sacred. Don't talk to me unless you're prepared to have your basic assumptions challenged. If you want bunnies in light, talk to someone else.

I bet an F-15's cruising speed is pretty close to a P-51's top speed, I'm sure it would have to slow down somewhat, but they're in the same neighborhood. To lazy to look it up....Enlightenment wrote:The F-15 barely keeping over stall speed and the P-51 running flat out, I take it?Stormbringer wrote:And the one with the F-15 and the P-51's flying wing is a sweet shot too.

That would be nice. You could use the F-117 Nighthawk to take out SAMs and any other AAA sites and then let the Lancaster level the general area.Sea Skimmer wrote:I want an F-117 flying alongside a Lancaster. One burns cities, the other strikes with precision.
But I wish I could ride in the last Lancaster, a B-17, a B-52 and the TSR.2 at RAF Cosford.
If I could fly in a BAC Lightning though, I would be really quite happy.

I can truthfully say I have helped to restore one of the only ?2? flying Lancasters remaining. All right so I was 10 and my 'help' consisted of riding in the truck that deliverd the props and watching them mount them and picking up loose ballbearings but I was still there.Admiral Valdemar wrote:That would be nice. Cool, a mate I know has an older brother who worked on the only flying Lancaster left, I hear the other one is in Canada.Luke Starkiller wrote:I can truthfully say I have helped to restore one of the only ?2? flying Lancasters remaining. The one in Canada flies, it is at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum in Hamilton, Ontario; it is actually being used right now in the filming of a war movie. They wrecked the 1 and 2 props this summer by running it into a DC-3 (I think) taxiing and I almost ended up delivering one of the repaired props.Admiral Valdemar wrote:Cool, a mate I know has an older brother who worked on the only flying Lancaster left, I hear the other one is in Canada.Luke Starkiller wrote:I can truthfully say I have helped to restore one of the only ?2? flying Lancasters remaining.
