Comments/criticisms for personal sci-fi ship designs

Post by Irumatai »

Greetings everyone :) ,
As a large portion of this board, I harbour both a desire to write original sci-fi and design ships for these universes. As such, I have designed a few ships and would like your valued comments/criticisms.

The drawings are all 2D (I have yet to discover the joys of a top end computer system, let alone a 3D graphics package), so please be kind.

Anyway, here are the designs.

Also, I have created a page where they are shown at their relative sizes, which is here.

As I said, comments and criticisms welcome.

Thanks.

It will work on anything newer than a 386...

It just might take a while... Don't expect instant results, but it's a great program for noodling around.

Don't worry about your drawing skills, they faaaar exceed mine. :D

Onto the ships, I know they are all different sizes, yet all the cockpits are the same size (to scale with the ship it's mounted on) and design (I presume the structure with the foremost emblem on it in the ventral pics is the cockpit). Also the Star Assualt carrier isn't big enough to carry any of the SF-70's. The Fleet Carrier looks like it could carry maybe 10-12 SF-70's, which is a bit on the light side (unless you're the Royal Navy :( ). The SF-75AC has swing wings and isn't that much larger than the SF-70 (so it's closer to a bomber rather than a cruiser), and why does a Space ship need swing wings?

Basically, it's the scale and the Nomenclature that are skewed here. Is the SF-70 a fighter analogue or a corvette analogue? If the former, then the rest of the ships need thier scales pushed up. If the latter then the SF-75AC needs some redesign as it seems like a large fighter rather than a cruiser.

Could you perhaps give us a quick rundown of the ships roles and weapons fits in a post here, so we can give more constructive criticism as to shape and design? Could you perhaps add a scale to your Comparison page, to better illustrate the sizes of the ships?

Thanks for posting these here, I hope we can give you some useful help and comments.
