ISD docking with Death Star
Is the Equitorial Trench on the Death Star designed to allow docking with an ISD, or is the transfer of cargo and personell done solely through shuttles?

With what we've seen in the movies....I don't think so.Lord Sander wrote:It should be entirely possible to dock the Executor, considering the size of the equitorial trench.
If you look at all the docking bays we've seen before the Falcon docked they are too small for the Executor.
Only at most the Star Destroyer length and size seams feasible for those docking bays.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

They might perhaps also have larger docking bays.

wouldnt that be the coolest thing to see? a giant moon with a superlaser arriving in your system, and spreading away from it like dandelion petals, hundreds of star destroyers. ..
This day is Fantastic!

'Interesting' is rather subjective. I'd be more occupied with flying in the opposite direction to marvel.

I very much doubt the ENTIRE trench only has those tiny docking bay types we saw used for shuttles and freighters.Soontir C'boath wrote:With what we've seen in the movies....I don't think so.

The only problem is that all of you guys are facing is "might" "could be" and etc. We're assuming here.SPOOFE wrote:And I very much doubt that the equatorial trench was the only place on the entire surface that had docking ports.
I'm only taking what was shown from the movies. Why are you guys saying otherwise? It's like letting Trekkies say something because "it might". But we don't do we

I think it would be cool to see the Executor in a large docking bay, with little docking tube things leading out of it.

I have no real idea as to whether or not the DS1 actually had sufficiently large hangar spaces to accommodate a 1.6 kilometer ISD. It is official, however, that the Death Star I was allocated four Strike Cruisers as auxiliary craft.
Loronar Strike Cruisers are 450 meter vessels, so the hangar facilities of the Death Star had to be at least large enough to accommodate those cruisers. Since there is no specification of the sizes of the other 20,000+ military and transport vessels that the DS carried in addition to its 7,000-odd TIE fighters, the Strike cruisers are about all there is to provide a benchmark. Of course, it's still a big step up from having a hangar big enough for a 450 meter vessel to a hangar big enough for a mile-long behemoth like a proper ISD.

Safe assumptions, I might add. Note that I'm not referring specifically to hangar bays for Star Destroyers. The only problem is that all of you guys are facing is "might" "could be" and etc. We're assuming here.
Further... doesn't the novelisation mention that, when the Devastator flies towards the Death Star, it's intended purpose was to dock?

Ok ok ok...Now I think we're at a misunderstanding here.SPOOFE wrote:Safe assumptions, I might add. Note that I'm not referring specifically to hangar bays for Star Destroyers. The only problem is that all of you guys are facing is "might" "could be" and etc. We're assuming here.

All I said was that the Executor wouldn't be able to dock in the Death Star not a Star Destroyer.
I think it's feasible for a star destroyer .. just look at the other docks other than what the Falcon went in and compare. Don't take my word for it though. I'd have to watch again, but they were "LARGE" docking bays.

The Executor going completely inside the Death Star may be unfeasable, but the definition of docking (in space, anyway) is two spaceships physically connecting. And the original question was whether shuttlecraft had to be used in any transfer or if they could dock. Well, it's a safe assumption to say they don't need shuttles or transports because they can physically connect to handle transfers.Soontir C'boath wrote:All I said was that the Executor wouldn't be able to dock in the Death Star not a Star Destroyer.

Those must be some long transfer cylinders because I wouldn't want that large ship close to the Death Star.Lord Sander wrote:The Executor going completely inside the Death Star may be unfeasable, but the definition of docking (in space, anyway) is two spaceships physically connecting.
