It gets even funnier when you realize that the entire church consists of Phelps and his extended family. Lots of inbreeding going down here.

Oh great sadness.
What are we humans coming to when people protest human dignity and integrity.
But what's worse is that all of you have, instead of embracing the pacifism and calm of Mr. Rogers, demanded the immediate and utter annhilation of his detractors. Fred Rogers' memory cannot be honored though anger.
I can't judge you, I know all to well the same feeling, but you should at least be aware of hypocracy. It is always best to leave hypocracy naked.

Phelps is the most supreme asshole on the planet Earth, nothing can trump this, nothing. This is it, the human race is over. I seriously cannot care for it any more.

A bit holier-than-thou, aren't we?

I'm surprised it took you this long to lose faith in humanity. I've learned a long time ago that humans are loathful disgusting pigs that can't be trusted with anything resembling honesty, honor, virtue and things that are sacred. Giving up my crusade of enlightenment, nowadays I just sit back and watch the fun; as the world goes to hell I can laugh as the fire engulfs them...So in a way I'm quite holier-than-thou.

Ugh.

Mr. Rogers was a man worthy of utmost respect, and these people defile his memory.

The ironic thing is that homosexuality is what these people need most--it would keep them from breeding, at least.

This is one of the most astonishing pieces of crap I have ever seen. How can it be someone's (emphasis ONE PERSON) responsibility to confront every single issue on the face of the Earth. Even if we accept his basis that homosexuals are evil, etc. etc. etc., how the fuck is it Mr. Roger's responsibility to deal with that? Last time I checked, the US Congress and the Judicial System haven't adequately addressed this issue to ANYONE's satisfaction, even though it IS their responsibility to do so. The idea that Mr. Rogers MUST take a stand one way or the other on this particular issue is ludicrous.

Moreover, don't even get me started on the claim that homosexuals are responsible for Sept. 11, and Colombia. To blame ANY single group (religious, ethnic, philosophical, or otherwise) for those tragedies is to stretch credulity beyond belief. Unless he has SUBSTANTIAL evidence that no one else knows about, I don't see how ANYONE can make such an outlandish statement with a straight face. What is this crackwhore smoking?

Consider how much of an asshat one has to be to get defrocked by the Southern Baptist Council.

That's how much of an asshat Fred Phelps is. His "church" is basically his own little family hate club (there are no members of the Westboro Baptist Church who are not related to Phelps either by blood or by marriage).

Phelps has about as much in common with mainstream Christianity as Stalin has with your average atheist, mmmkay?

No, I'd say he has a little more in common.

Stalin: There is no god!
Atheist: I agree!

Stalin: Communism can work!
Atheist: Eh ...

Stalin: I'm going to kill millions of people!
Atheist: I respectfully disagree (respectfully only because he doesn't want to get shot).

Meanwhile ...

Phelps: Jesus Christ is the One True Savior!
Christian: I agree!

Phelps: The Bible is the Word of God!
Christian: I agree!

Phelps: The Bible is the absolute literal word of God!
Christian: Well ... maybe some parts, I guess ...

Phelps: God hates fags!
Christian: Well, maybe ... there might have been some translational errors, since the original text never really referenced homosexuals except in one part ...

Phelps: The world was created in six days by God!
Christian: Now you're gettin' kinda deranged ...

Phelps: Mr. Rogers is burning in Hell!
Christian: Okay that's where I'm gonna draw the line.

See? :D

Not really.

Mr. Phelps seems to be of a "everyone who's not wholly with me is/will be burning in hell" mentality (using the term loosely, since it presupposes some capacity for actual thought). Absurd it is, but for such a person to produce something logically coherent would be much more mind-boggling.
