Who would win? Would it be the little tasmanian devil with a lightsaber, or the big bad himself?

Obi said that Annie rivaled Yoda in sabering, but Annie did jack shit to Dooku. So I say that Yoda kicks Annie's ass. But if you mean Vader from the OT....ehh....I still say Yoda kicks his ass.

Also, Obi-Wan was clearly exaggerating. Tell me, if someone says to you "If you were as good with economics as you are with your jokes, you'd be Bill Gates himself!", does that mean you have a chance to be the richest man in the world? No.Raxmei wrote:Obi actually said that Anakin *could* rival Yoda's swordsmanship skill if only he'd spend some time practicing it instead of piloting. So far we have never seen Ani wield his lightsaber very well. He might be able to vape Yoda in a starfighter duel, but I doubt he could win a saber fight.

All factors considered, Vader might just get on top.
Why? Because someone with enough Force power can dampen someone else's usage of the Force. From what I see, Yoda actually needs his repulsor chair and walking stick, and if he could have beaten Vader and the Emperor he probably would have done so. The fact that he and Obi-Wan needed a Skywalker to fight Palpy and Vader suggests that Yoda knows he could not draw on his AOTC fighting ability.

More probably, it's just that he didn't dare risk it. Think of it like this: Yoda goes to kill Vader, succeeds. He now kills Palpy, barely succeeds. Even in this far-fetched scenario (remember that Palpatine successfully hid his Force ability from not only Yoda but other Jedi at a few pace's distance), Yoda would more than likely be half-dead. And who, then, would carry on the Jedi ways?Lord of the Farce wrote:All factors considered, Vader might just get on top.

The battle does not always go to the strong, nor the debate to the smart, but that's the way to bet.

I always assumed that Yoda needed the cane and repulsor lift because it was more comfortable and less strenuous on his body than walking normally. When he fights Dooku, clearly he doesn't need either of these, but it may be causing him great pain to move so quickly.Lord of the Farce wrote:All factors considered, Vader might just get on top.

The point is that Yoda was able to move like that, even when against a powerful Force user. Dooku would have been trying to prevent Yoda's movements, and Yoda was able to easily block all of Dooku's. All that Dooku could do against Yoda was defend himself. He could not even counter-attack, even though against Obi-Wan and Anakin he was dominating.Crazy_Vasey wrote:Going by the movies I think Yoda is way overrated as a duellist. He jumps around like a little girl on a sugar rush, crosses blades all of twice with a non moving Dooku and that's it. Pathetic.

Ok what about the Emperor versus Yoda?
(which I hope we'll see in epIII as it would explain "Do not underestimate the powers of the emperor") Preferably yoda and a few jedi bursting into palpy's office and palpy surprising them by turning out to be the Ultimate Sith Lord.

If Yoda was that great he would have made contact. Spinning around like a fool not even coming close to Dooku doesn't make him a good duellist in my book.
Anyway it was Yoda that failed in that duel. Dooku was trying to escape, Yoda was trying to stop him. In the end Dooku accomplished his goal not Yoda.

Only because Anakin, like an ass, attacked Dooku recklessly at the start, getting taken down as a result. If he and Obi-wan had gone in together, they'd not have been on the floor waiting to be used as a distraction. After all, Yoda would have wiped the floor with Dooku if Dooku hadn't toppled that column towards Ob-wan and Anakin.

If Dooku thought he could've won, he would've stayed. Just think about it, if he could've owned Yoda... damn. The greatest Jedi Master dead. No hope for the Jedi Order.
Yoda was clearly the better swordsman- and it was pretty much explicitly stated in AOTC. "Rivalling Master Yoda as a swordsman".
Just because he jumped around a lot doesn't mean much- Dooku was clearly overwhelmed. Yoda was too fast.
Notice also that after the fight Yoda was tired. He's 900 years old afterall.

Yoda didn't fight because he had reached a point where he knew better than to be reckless, to seek contemplation, to never use the Force to attack.
And thus, he could not fight an aggressive war.
He needed Luke's recklessness, for those that are reckless are not held back by their own wisdom...

Totally, we need to see the Emperor in action in Episode III. Better yet, we should see the Empire with a sabre; given the presence of super-powerful light side force users like Yoda, surely Palpatine realizes that eventually, he may have to fall back on sabre skills as Dooku did in his duel with Yoda. Or is Palpatine such an immeasurably powerful force user that even Yoda will be no match for him? I can't imagine what GL has in store for us.NecronLord wrote:Ok what about the Emperor versus Yoda?

Durran, as kick-ass as it would be to se Palpy in a lightsaber duel, against anyone, but specificly Yoda; it simply aint gonna happen. We'll get to see Anakin vs. Obi-Wan, and then maybe Vader vs. ???, and that'll be it.
For sure, unfortunatly no Palply, so if you wanna see him fight, go read Dark Empire *cough gag weeze die*

I'm sure we have all theorized as to how Mace Windu dies... What better way than at the hands of Palpatine himself?
Oh and why not, really? It was hardly expected that Yoday would whip out a saber and start dishing out whoop-ass. So why not Palpatine? If we really want to be thrown for a loop, consider Palpy with a double saber.
As to who would win of Vader and Yoda... Yoda would still be able to call upon the Force for Geonosis-style antics, and that would likely make the difference. Analysis of the fight scene in ANH shows that Vader faces Kenobi much like two old Kendo-masters would face off, with very little movement, 'fighting for the centre' as some might put it. Vader is held at bay since his wilder moves are deflected by Kenobi's conservation of energy style. Only when Kenobi salutes and lets him does Vader strike him down. Yoda would never give him such a chance.
Looking at the match in AOTC, Yoda is indeed fast and mobile, while Dooku is more static. However, until the lull where Yoda says "You have fought well, my padawan" Yoda does not try to kill him, he is wearing him down, letting him expend his energy against his own impenetrable defense. (This is also supported by the script.) Then, after he speaks those words, all stops are pulled, and lo, a few seconds later, Dooku pulls his stunt with the pillar, and escapes as Yoda saves the two Jedi lying in a crumpled heap underneath it. Yoda would have killed him, had he not done so. We may yet see him do so. Ep III will show.

I happen to think that Anakin will slay Dooku. It has to be in order for Anakin to complete his descent to the darkside. The scene will be much like the one where Luke whoops ass on him on the DS2. Instead of mentioning his sister, perhaps Dooku taunts him by telling Anakin that he killed his wife (padme) and Anakin just goes apeshit, opens up a six pack can of whoop ass, drives Dooku to the edge of a power core (Sith and powercores...someone should analyze this weird relationship) and as he is about to slice Dooku down, Palpy tells him that the darkside has made him strong, not even Yoda could defeat Dooku but you have." With that, nothing left to lose, wife dead (a lie, she is actually in hiding with Kenobi and Yoda), friendship with his master shattered, he simply gives in to the drakside and kills Dooku. Unlike Luke, Aanakin will not have a warning of what is to come.Yoda would have killed him, had he not done so. We may yet see him do so. Ep III will show
I also happen to think that the Obi/Anakin duel takes place AFTER this fight near the very end of the movie. Obi tries one last time to bring his student back to the lightside ("Obi Wan once thought as you did.") and they fight, Anakin into a hot molten pool and crawls out forever scarred as Darth Vader. The movie ends with Anakin full full Vader regalia, at his master's side as Obi Wan takes Luke to Tatooine and Yoda settles on Dagobah and infant Leia is taken by Senator Organa to Alderaan in a beautful silent montage with music from John Williams that wil tear our hearts out...
Just a guess...
