Humble Star Wars Bundle

Post by Dominus Atheos »

May the bundle be with you. Do you feel the bundle around you? Here, between you, us, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. That's this bundle! Pay what you want for Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, and Star Wars: Dark Forces. Pay more than the average price, and you also get Star Wars Republic Commando, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, and Star Wars Battlefront II. Pay $12 or more, and you get all of the above plus Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, Star Wars The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition, and Star Wars Empire at War: Gold Pack.

Pay what you want. These games generally cost up to $115, but here at Humble Bundle, you pay what you want.

I will wait to see what the "more games coming soon" part holds.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

I don't understand why isn't Jedi Outcast part of the list.

I've played the KOTOR games and Jedi Academy. Could someone tell me what they think about the rest of the games listed there ?

I've seen people say that about previous Humble Bundles. The games in question often, but not always, appear in the second week.

Republic Commando: the game that should have been co-op that wasn't and is still incredibly fun. Horribly unbalanced multiplayer, which likely isn't an issue now since I doubt anyone is playing it. The game has a pretty slick SP campaign and I recently replayed through it and it still holds up. The back and forth banter between the clones is basically what Gears of War would bring a year later. After playing it, you'll be pissed it's never getting a sequel. Also, game was pretty gimped being released at the end of the Xbox lifecycle. Had it been a 360 title, we might have seen a series.

Force Unleashed. Played it on 360. It had terrible load...ing..scr...reens. The customizations menu not only had it's own interface that had to load, likely due to memory limitations, but any changes made forced to you restart from a checkpoint. The game had targetting issues, among other numerous annoyances and had numerous QTEs and generally just didn't come together for me as a game. Also, really highlighted the shittyness of 30FPS. I don't know if the PC version has issues, but the game was not worth 60 bucks. Might be worth the extra $12.

TFU2 fixed a lot wrong with the first game and fucked it all up with the shortest and shittiest campaign. The only decent part was the back and forth between Starkiller and old Jedi dude, which made little sense in context. Almost forgot: "Oh Starkiller-san, please save me!" Bleug. From what's there though, it's actually pretty enjoyable from a gameplay standpoint.

Dark Forces: If you can handle old school quasi-3D shooters where mouse support is kind of "meh:" the game is extremely fun and can be quite challenging. One of the few (decent) story-driven FPS of the time.

Battlefront: Battlefield 1942 with Star Wars assets. The MP was stellar. The SP... I dunno, barely bothered with it, but I heard good things.

I really wanted Republic Commando and Force Unleashed. It's going to be very hard to avoid justifying picking this up...

For $12: I'd say go for it. You can get some mileage out of the first mission when you play as Vader and some of the battles are fun, merely marred by the over-reliance on QTE finishing moves. You can also have a blast mowing down loads of Stormtroopers in hilarious ways, but Jedi-Knight did it better. The problem comes from Force immune enemies later on that are also resistant to lightsabers, added solely to provide some difficulty, but really only succeed in frustrating the HELL out of the player.

TFU2 cleans up the gameplay at the expense of any semblance of story or character development. For $12, I wouldn't pass on either if I hadn't already played them and doing so again would reawaken the anger I have that those two games are why there is no Jedi-Knight 3 (or 4, whatever). But if you're looking for a more modern game where you can slice up baddies with lightsabers: those are pretty much the most recent that don't have LEGO in the title.

Empire at war is itself and awesome game but I think its some of the mods that truly make it awesome. (I'd check out Thrawn's revenge or the Legacy mod in particular.)

Is that the one that's like Rebellion but with fancy graphics and 1% of the complexity? Basically if you want a game to pass your weekend and kill a few hours go for it. But beyond that it's really not worth it.
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

The extra games are now Jedi Outcast, Dark Forces 2 and Starfighter, all covered under the original above average cost.

Now I'm taking it.

I take it that more games or additions are unlikely at this point?

I picked this up. Just played through Jedi Academy again. Love that game so much. I went light-side through the various choices and picked up all the light-side powers, so Luke and Kyle constantly complimented me on what a good Jedi I was, because apparently they didn't notice that I kept pushing people who posed no threat to me off of cliffs and mind-tricking people into killing their friends.

I wouldn't think so... they have added two lumps of games into a bundle in the past but they left the 'more coming soon' up when they did that.

Wow. Man, those KOTOR graphics are *dated*. This is such a blast to the past. Gonna take a little adjusting.

I think there was a high resolution texture pack for the early sections of KoToR 1. Sadly, I don't remember the rest of the details.

Would it play nice with Win7? Because I'm fairly sure that they only upgraded the original games and added bug-fixes and such. Hell, is it even online still?

I would recommend getting Jedi Knight from GOG. Because the game used CD audio and the Steam version never carried it. GOG, however, does install the audio so you're not playing a silent game.

I found the mod:

http://www.moddb.com/mods/kotor-ultimate

It says the mod works fine with Windows 7 but you need a windows 7/vista fix to run the game in the first place; there's a link to that on the page anyway.

Eh... I don't mind the graphics too terribly but I'll bookmark that. Thanks.

Played some Republic Commando today. That was interesting. Fun little game.

The only problem with RC is that it was so dam short. I remember the first time I played it. The game ended just when I got really good at it.

Jumped into Force Unleashed for a bit. Playing as Darth Vader? Awesome (for all of one level, but can't have everything). Controls? Funky. I prefer first person. And the real downer? No bloody subtitles on the cinematics.
