Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
the current storyline now takes into account the romulan starting experience on the federation side too thus the Elachi don't come out of nowhere during the Solanea Dyson sphere storyline and it's nice to see that your RRF is sort mentioned there as well not by name obviously but when Hakeev mentions that the romulan republic caused more problems then anticipated that seems to be reference to the actions of the RRF PC handing Haveek or his lackeys their proverbial asses everytime you encounter them.

Anyone else feel bad for the former Romulan Praetor, Taris? She's a villain, but it seems that she didn't mean to harm her people that badly and that she's nuts/in denial as a result.

I think she's suppose to be a tragic figure, she's not like Sela or Hakeev who in the end only care about their own power. The Romulan Republic wrote:Anyone else feel bad for the former Romulan Praetor, Taris? Taris belived she was helping her people after Shinzon fiasko only for it blow in her face and causing more damage then Shinzon ever did. not only did the romulan get divided with the ruling class of the Star Empire still clining to their dreams of glory and the Tal Shiar becoming Iconian puppets, while others abandoned the Star Empire and formed the Romulan Republic. But Romulus is gone and billions of romulans are dead because of what Taris did unknowingly.

I just got my Kobabli cruiser and I'm loving it so far, sturdy and hits decently hard too plus I can now take advantage of the my Kobali boffs space command abilities.

Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
Meanwhile, I treated myself to a Presidio-class tactical command battlecruiser, and I'm already deeply in love. It has the toughness of the Odyssey, with a much better turn rate and a design which makes me weak at the knees.
The design strongly reminds me of Mark Kingsnorth's Ascension-class in certain ways, which is one of my favourite fan designs of all time.
Add to that a built in hanger and you have an extremely satisfying ship to fly.

I don't got the spare cash to buy Zen in any meaningfull amounts so Samsaar-class (or how ever you spelled the name) is more or less the only T6 ship I can get, though it doesn't hurt that it's decent looking and pretty good in combat too.

now I have to replay "Fluid Tension" to get the dialoge that I can start writing the next chapter on my story in fanfics (even if I use the in-game dialoge in broad strokes rather then exactly I still need to remember it).

Got a mission coming up that apparently requires a small vessel, so I sold off a bunch of stuff for energy credits and bought myself a Runabout, which I'm taking for a test flight.

Nice - I went with a Delta Flyer, the small craft missions are usually fun, but you don't really get them that often.

Annoying issue. It says on the Earth space station that I've selected the Runabout, but when I beam up I'm still using my Intrepid.

You would've gotten a token for a free one, though I don't recall if it gives the Runabout or just the Type 8.The Romulan Republic wrote:Got a mission coming up that apparently requires a small vessel, so I sold off a bunch of stuff for energy credits and bought myself a Runabout, which I'm taking for a test flight.
As long as you have one, when you start a Shuttle Only mission it'll switch automatically for you, which is nice. The Romulan Republic wrote:Annoying issue. It says on the Earth space station that I've selected the Runabout, but when I beam up I'm still using my Intrepid.
If you just want to fly it around, things are a little more complicated. It's been so long I'd have to start up STO to remember how to do it.

It would appear I missed the edit window. Anyway...
lol Stupid me, I forgot all about the Ship Switcher in Sector Space. Just warp out to Sector Space and pull up your character screen (default the 'U' key) and then select the tab for your starship. Down on the bottom left there will be a button that says "Switch Starship" and when you press it, a list of all the ships and shuttles that you have will pop up. Pick one and Bob's your uncle, you'll be in your chosen starship/shuttle.

Well, I managed to switch it.
Lord Revan, I'm not dealing with the Dominion yet. I'm still dealing with Romulan stuff. The mission in question something to do with a Romulan facility full of Borg stuff.

Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
yeah the Vault I forgot about that one it can be a bit tricky on shuttle that doesn't have cloak (klinks and rommies have that mission too) as you can't sneak past the capital ships as easily and even a T'Varo poses a serious threat to shuttle.
IronicallySpoiler
and the free token gives you a Type 8 shuttle you need to buy the Runabout with Dilithium.

Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
yeah those kind of missions give a whole new look at the scale of things, like the Romulan intro version of Viranat colony had a T'Liss class light warbird at the spaceport either being repaired or disasembled, now the T'Liss is positively tiny as far as romulan ships go but it's still this huge thing that takes up a decent portion of the map.

as I stated before Borg cannot adapt to anything that's either physical or kinetic damage type. That's why the MACO sniper does a tiny bit of damage to even fully adapated borg and the MACO Pulseweave secondary fire always works, as the sniper rifle has small secondary effect on both modes that does kinectic damage and the pulseweave has a honest to God grenade laucher in it and granades do kinetic.DarthPooky wrote:a little of topic but I just got the TR 116B and it is excellent AND THE BORG DONT ADAPT TO IT. Also melee weapons are semi-effective borg counters though you to be careful to avoid assimilations when that close to borg drones.

that's what I mean. I get the impression that some of the star trek writers and authors. Have the idea that the Borg can adapt to anything. Well, if nothing else, they do have to maintain game balance. Unstoppable Borg would kind of ruin that.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.

Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
That's the only real trouble with the difficulty system as it exists; a Galor is not a Galor is not a Galor, a cube is not a cube is not a cube; there's vast, titanic variation between theoretically-identical ships in the same class. Ultimately, I approve of the existence of scalable difficulty systems, don't get me wrong, but it would be nice to have a...canon difficulty, as it were, to figure out what it all means in relation to each other. Can I burn down entire battle squadrons in seconds? Dunno, I can on Normal. Can an Elachi dreadnought hand me my head, one-on-one? Maybe, on Elite, depends.
It's not so much a game balance issue, more a personal visualization issue.

Taking a T'varo one on one in a dogfight with a Runabout is fun. Runabouts are beautifully maneuverable.

Re: Should I try out Star Trek Online?
yeah those turrets don't give much of a DPS increase at higher levels but they're great at harassing NPC ships and enemy ships might even target them before you and you've probably noticed that there's quite a signifigant DPS increase once you bring the enemy shields down. The Romulan Republic wrote:Taking a T'varo one on one in a dogfight with a Runabout is fun. And yeah the T'Varo vs shuttle fight can be fun but it also can be bit tricky since while shuttles are fast and maneuverable they also can't take that many hits and a good cap ship grade torp hit might be enough to take them down. but once you get how to fight with a small craft you're golden (you'll have to fight a Dominion bug ship later too).
