Fox just reported that there were an estimated 20-30 oil well fires but that they US military has successfully extinguished the majority of them.

*******

it was reported in the local Houston,TX news several days ago that special units of Army Combat Engineers had undergone intense training for just that purpose - as well as how to shut down a "run-away" refinery.

I was assigned to 3ID for nearly four years, and I too wore the "Marne" patch on both sides of my helmet, so it is with mixed feelings that I watch my old unit spearhead this assault...

Does anyone recall what the commanding general of the 101st Airborne Division said to a German officer who demanded his surrender during the Battle of the Bulge?

According to news reports, the 101st is already moving in the left flank of the 3rd ID.

OH, and Shock and Awe...... Skynews had shots (on second thought, I think they had a feed off Al Jeezera) of civilians in Baghdad in the streets, watching the bombing of military targets and palaces.

But as far as board culture in general, I do think that young male overaggression is a contributing factor to the general atmosphere of hostility. It's not SOS and the Mess throwing hand grenades all over the forum- Red

This may be a misfire from America forces or their allies, but it could just as easily be a bad shot from Iraqi forces or a deliberate attempt to goad the Iranians into attacking the American flank. Let's not start throwing blame around just yet, eh?

Good news. The southern fields now being overrun hold 60% of the nations capacity, and there offloading points in the gulf have already been seized.

Russians had the right idea with refinery fires. Best way to fight an oil fire is massive overpressure from a bomb. Best way to get massive overpressure is a nuke. So guess what they used on one..

The missile that hit Iran was likely a falling SAM that went ballistic and whose self-destruct didn't function.

Everyone knew all along that the invasion would effortlessly sweep through the outlying areas. Saddam pulled all his quality forces back into Baghdad, where he obviously plans to make a stand. At this point, what happens will depend on whether the people around him can organize a coup, and whether his "elite" Republican Guard choose to be smart instead of fanatical.

The New York Times is reporting a top Iraqi commander just surrendered to US Marines.
