What's the difference? Why don't they just call it blitzkrieg? What is so innovative and new about this strategy?

I think you're correct. Furthermore, the Wermacht Blitzkrieg didn't attempt to minimize civilian casualties to my knowledge. The Poles didn't stand on the street so they could watch Luftwaffe dive bombers pulverize what they believed to be only military targets with pinpoint precision...

Agreed, its the same thing. The only difference is PR.

I think the Blitzkrieg was intended to defeat the military as quick as possible, whereas "Shock and Awe" is meant to shake up the political structure of the enemy. France was never on the recieving end of a bombing like this.

Plus the fact it's meant more of cracking politcal/military morale than fast conquest.

Blitzkrieg is only a tactical aplication of military assets, in a certain area of operations. So far, "S&A" is aimed at disrupting political, command and control activities by the aplication of PGM's. And PC for cruise missile attacks, of course.

Blitzkrieg is a rapid a rapid campaign to bring victory by military means. This is more intended to bring about a collapse without heavy fighting. The US Army already renamed Blitzkrieg anyway, its now Airland battle.
