Which is somewhat true, giving a good indication of the emotions that drive people to believe in such things.

So ... religion is born from desperation and highly-charged emotional situations, while atheism is born from critical reasoning and objectivity. Sounds good to me.

Admitedly it would get a little boring (not to mention sore) but it would still be better than just being dead.
