In the case of people whining about "People care more about some lion than Sandy Bland!" Most of those comments are coming from the left.Borgholio wrote:This is why I no longer read comments from articles posted to websites that are even slightly to the right.I think I lost part of my brain having to consume and digest such stupid reasoning.

There is a new hashtag called #policelivesmatter.
And here is a representative of that "movement."

I blame 24 hour news. When one topic can become the sole discussion for hours on end, it seems then the focus everyone can have is only on the most important.Lord MJ wrote:I think I lost part of my brain having to consume and digest such stupid reasoning.
It's people like these that think government can only work on one thing at a time such as when Congress try to hash out a transportation or health care bill as top priorities without realizing that other shit like voting to rename a post office still happens on the calendar.
I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

It's not that new. It started during the Baltimore riots some months back.Lord MJ wrote: There is a new hashtag called #policelivesmatter.

Ignoring the multiple issues with her "argument" and there are many (I could write a whole post about it, but it isn't worth it): it's usually telling to me that people like this can write off abuses of power and/or general asshattery specifically because it's not targeted at them or a group they identify with. I'd bet my bottom dollar had this happened to her, one of her kids, or some random out of town white-girl: she'd be raising Hell and in the case of family, be suing everyone she could and demanding people get fired or go to jail.Lord MJ wrote:::snip image::

But really, a white lady out of Allen talking like this: It's easier to just put "IF YOU'RE BLACK" (or a visible minority) preceding pretty much every point she makes.

I think she pretty much did that when she opened with "uppity, mouthy, and criminal". It probably took every ounce of self-control she had to avoid having that post just be the N-word typed over and over again like a racist Jack Torrance.TheFeniX wrote:But really, a white lady out of Allen talking like this: It's easier to just put "IF YOU'RE BLACK" (or a visible minority) preceding pretty much every point she makes.

Yeah, especially "uppity." That word is practically solely a dogwhistle at this point.
Re: Sandra Bland Arrest and Death
Using "Uppity" in reference to a black person, in of itself, is like flying the Battle Flag: Come up with any justification you want, it's more likely you're just a huge racist. It's not a word that ever comes up in casual conversation, in my experience, when talking negatively about anyone unless race is involved.Civil War Man wrote:I think she pretty much did that when she opened with "uppity, mouthy, and criminal". That said, even without Uppity, the amount of racism (or just lack of empathy) is always worth a laugh. I usually chock this up to The Greater Internet Fuckwad theory, but this thinking is pretty relevant here in Texas in my experience. Her idea that being snotty to an officer somehow justifies violence (even shooting) only exists because it's not happening to an (upper-)middle class white girl. She's probably said worse to a cop in her lifetime and really doesn't have to worry about being called out on it.
