CNN Reporting US Soldiers Captured
CNN is reporting that Iraq's managed to capture some US soldier. Not details yet and I'm afraid I can't yet find a link.

Frankly, people like Saddam could do much worse. As long they turn up alive and relatively unharmed at the end of the war. The question on what to that pilot Spyker (Sp?) is still open.Montcalm wrote:I heard here they said four and there is a woman in the group,if they do like in 1991 the POWs will be seen on aljazeera with multiple bruises and forced to say "we were wrong to attack the peaceful Iraqi people"

Five headshots? The conclusion when you're facing the Ba'athist regime we are is not unreasonable.Stormbringer wrote: They aren't saying any of that now. And I haven't seen it on CNN. I wouldn't put it past Saddam and his goons though.

No soldier deserves that.
I hope, by some miracle, they stay alive.

"Right now we can tell you a report was filed by the family of a 12 year old boy yesterday afternoon alleging Mr. Michael Jackson of criminal activity. A search warrant has been filed and that search is currently taking place. Mr. Jackson has not been charged with any crime. We cannot specifically address the content of the police report as it is confidential information at the present time, however, we can confirm that Mr. Jackson forced the boy to listen to the Howard Stern show and watch the movie Private Parts over and over again."

NO ONE deserves to be tortured and killed like that! You sick fuck! I can generally tolerate anything anyone says. And even joke around about death, and stupid people. darwin awards are great, but they are usually dispatched in a quick and painless fashion. But POWs are put through some of the worst torment maginable. he biblical hell doesnt hold a candle to human cruelty. No one no matter how stupid deserves that.kojikun wrote:No, its the fucking reality of the situation. You dont walk into enemy territory and expect not to be captured.Koji...That is fucked up
If they didnt know they were there, thats VERY different, but I find it hard to believe that they could stray that far from where they were supposed to be. Its not as if you step an inch into enemy territory and suddenly you're surrouded by Iraqis, no, you have to wander away from your assigned group INTENTIONALLY, and you have to wander pretty damned far as well.

The bedrock of morality is sympathy, and these people are still alive, still terrified, and may be in for serious hardship. Grow the fuck up.kojikun wrote:And I don't care how much sympathy you have for a bunch of fools who get themselves captured because they were stupid.

"The previous afternoon Rommel had visited a field hospital, full
of a mixed bag of German and British wounded. Walking between
the beds, he observed that the hospital was still in British hands
and that British soldiers were all about. It was, indeed, a British
medical officer who was conducting him round, having mistaken
him, or so he imagined, for a Polish general. The German wounded
goggled at him and began to sit up in bed. "I think we´d better
get out of this," whispered Rommel. As he jumped into 'Mammut'
(his captured British armoured car), he acknowledged a final
salute. (D. Young)

The captured soldiers appear to have been from part of the logistics trail, supporting forward combat units. Planners took a calculated risk in not clearing towns and cities they passed of enemy and weapons. The Iraqis realized that Coalition follow-on forces, while they are soldiers, are not combat soldiers (the extent of their combat training having been Basic Training). There is no immediate fix to this. Logistics soldiers are not well trained for combat operations -- their specialty is logistics (repairing, refueiling, refitting, moving of personnel and equipment). Iraqi stay-behind forces will continue to lay low and allow combat forces to pass. Then they will engage lightly-armed logistics forces for easy propaganda victories. I doubt the enemy have sufficient numbers to cut off our logistics trail or even significantly hamper it, but they can score propaganda victories, which will inflame both Arabs and Western peace activists/protesters. The one way this may well backfire against the government of Iraq is that word of mistreatment will reach our forward combat units, and they will be enraged, fighting more fiercely and with a greater sense of purpose than before. We saw the same effect in Germany, during the Battle of the Bulge, when captured Americans were simply lined up and shot.
On the progress of the war, I don't expect Baghdad to fall prior to the end of next week. 3ID will engage forces south of Baghdad, with the 101st ABN DIV in support (making heavy use of their Apaches and Hellfire missiles). The Coalition Air Forces will continue to be combat multipliers, engaging enemy forces and serving as CAS for forward combat units. The Marines and Brits will maneuver north along the right flank of 3ID. 4ID will be in country and ready to move out by the end of next week, and they will likely form the main follow-on force, which will mop up those Iraqi forces that are laying low and engaging our logistics trail. Meanwhile, a coalition of Kurds and US Special Forces will slowly advance from the north.
