Last morning, everything was fine. Just spicky-span fine.

Many hours later, in late evening, we found something in one of our bedrooms. Near the bathroom, at the border where carpet meets the wall.

IT WAS A MUSHROOM

A pair of 4-inch tall mushrooms were growing out of our carpet.

Just last morning they weren't there and now, about 15 hours or a little more later, there they are!! We managed to take them out and clorox+lots of other things the area.

I swear, the next time I eat a pizza with all toppings, I will never look at that mushroom the same way again.

Speaking of which, it even released its spores. One moment, just mushrooms. About 2 hours later, spores released and littered the carpet underneath it with millions of tiny black spores.

Uhm, not to be insulting or anything, but what's the state of your housekeeping if you have mushrooms growing in your carpet???
And 4" overnight is about how they grow, I've seen big assed puff-ball fungi appear overnight in Ohio.

That clorox should do the job but you should pull up the carpet to see if the wooden floorboards are rotten. You might have water leaking into the floor.
