Lets speculate about coalition plans a bit:
There are reports of coalition troops in An Najaf. It is however unlikely that they will stop there, so lets guess their path towards Baghdad.
The alternatives:
Al Najaf area: The troops cross the Euphrates close to An Najaf and drive towards Al Hillah and from there to Baghdad.
Karbala: The troops continue north on the west side to Karbala (halfway between Baghdad and An Najaf), cross the river and continue to Baghdad.
Habbaniyah: The troops cross at Habbaniyah west of Baghdad.
No crossing: The troops doen't cross and drives for the Syrian/Jordanian borders.
What is your guess?
Where will the troops in An Najaf cross the Euphrates?

They're already reported to be somewhat north of An-Najaf in the direction of Karbala, though I'm not certain if this is correct considering the resistance encountered there. Based on the Iraqi road system, I suspect they'll advance to Karbala, take it, and then cross the Euphrates at Al-Musayyib. They can advance directly north into Baghdad from there.

US troops interviewed in the field said that Karbala was one of the few urban areas that the US needed to capture, which would indicate that the US would at least like everyone to think that they intend to cross at Karbala. Where they actually cross is anyone's guess but IIRC the US has now decided to encircle and bypass Nasiriya so that's pretty much out as a crossing point.
