Probably. I haven't seen The Pianist but Day-Lewis was awesome in Gangs.

He already has an Oscar, however, while it was Adrian's first nomination.

Have a very nice day.

Well I thought it was classy that he invited the rest of the nominees onstage with him ... then he just started going off like a loon.

The local ABC station ran a few recaps with Moore getting booed, but I don't see any websites with vidcaps of the Oscars.

I don't see why celebrities are seen as being any more or less informed than the general public. Granted, some of them are fairly intelligent, but no more so than the general population. I don't understand why Americans treat celebrities in movies as being any different from them in terms of (say) global politics and economics.

Yeah, why can't he be like all of the other actors and musicians and athletes, who use their time in the spotlight to publicly affirm their religious faith?

Incidentally, I guess I should point out the obvious irony with ultra-liberal celebrities. Essentially, they are re-affirming the rights of lower-class people. That's good. The problem is, they begin to ACT LIKE ELITISTS by assuming that their views should override those of others and begin going for conversions.

In reality, I don't care what kind of a celebrity you are, or what your political views may be. If you don't have some specific knowledge (ie. You researched the latest role for a part in a movie by going to Iraq to see how people there live, you worked in a coal-mine for a month to try to write a history of the coal-mine communities in PA, you wrote a research paper on the lives of Guatamalen working-class citizens, etc.) I don't see why your opinion is any better than mine.

It's not just political views that piss me off(well, some of them do) it's that he hijacked a comletely unrelated forum, on that should have been used for reflection and congratulation, to shove his views down the throats of everyone else.

I applaud what he did. It took a lot of balls to say what people didn't want to hear at such a pomp and ceremony event, and it was something that really needed to be said with all the millions watching.

EDIT: Just read the rest of this thread. I'm seeing a lot of anger and zero logic and rebuttal, which tells me he said exactly what needed to be said.

 Yeah, standing up on a stage in hollywood and talking smack, it must take a hairy pair for that. He's a class clown and I've stopped thinking that class clowns have bravery and courage about 15 years ago in Jr High. If he had balls (and I have seen him do this) he would go onto a political forum with an advarsary and not use an entertainment show to espouse his political views.

Oh, bullshit. The Academy Awards ceremony is not a political forum, it's an event designed to honor achievement in film. Why couldn't Michael Moore just go up there, accept his award and give a nice acceptance speech like everyone else who gets one instead of being an opportunistic prick?

exactly! Since when does verbal masturbation in front of a room of predominatly like minded individuals with no chance of rebuttal count as ballsy? Put him in a room with William Kristol or Christopher Hitchens and then see how shallow he is.

Uh-huh. So we should now begin shoving our opinions down the throats of other people on events that have no connection to politics? Uh-huh. You know what, I have acting experience. Therefore, I'm as qualified as he to comment on this. And I say: He's a fucking retarded moron.

Or that we are so blown away that he would use an awards ceremony to further his retarded political platform.. But hey, let's interperate things however they help your side the most, eh?

The "Soybomb" guy who jumped on stage and danced along with Bob Dylan at the Grammys a few years back had more guts than Moore. He coulda been arrested and had his ass tossed in jail for making an ass of himself. The worst that coulda happened to Moore is to get booed and heckled and perhaps have people lose respect for him. Big deal, lots of guts needed for that.

You want something that requires balls? Okay.

Go to a country half a world away, full of people who may very well use chemical or biological agents against you, or fake surrendering to kill you, or any of a thousand other nasty things on top of dying in normal combat. All the while, take abuse from those back home who call you a babykiller, a nazi, etc.. But do it anyway because Saddam is a dangerous, cruel son of a bitch and someone has to get rid of him and his sons.

Oh boo-hoo, so he disrespected the Oscars, as if they had any respect to dis. Your worldview can't handle criticism, and you resent him for giving it before you had time to set up your mental defenses.

Nice strawman!

The oscar's is not a place for politics. Those that watch do not want politics. So it is highly inappropriate and disrespectful to those watching to use it as a political platform. But nevermind, it's helping your case, so let's pretend it's okay, hrm?
