. I don't get what's so special about all this anime stuff, just poorly drawn/animated cartoons if you ask me.
There's a lot more to anime than Pokemon and Dragonball Z, of course.

Personally, I like some anime. I'm also interested in the Japanese language.
Sailor Moon? Some masturbatory shit old men might watch when they don't have their glasses and can't make out what's going on in REAL porn.
I actually like the manga of BSSM in the original language.

You're probably more informed than me, so I'll accept your statement as true :)

That's a big pet peeve of mine, when people base their opinions of anime on the overhyped and badly mangled shows they saw on Cartoon Network and the WB, the aforementioned two especially.

There is some new show on toonami in the after noon. It's a samuri who was a man killer of some sort. The point of this is, I seem to find the strangest color usage in Anime. The samuri has this magenta kamono. Duncan Yo Yo spirit guy has like a sea green outfit. Just weird stuff like that. Is there a notion to it? i have no idea, because personally it doesn't work.

Let me tell you, my finace's is Japanese and we go to Japan a few times per year. My children are going to be half Japanese. That being said let me say that I DON'T UNDERSTAND this fascination with this culture. I love to travel and I love Japan, but not for the same reasons.

What is it about anime that fascinates you? What is it about Japan, in general, that fascinates you? What's the big deal about Japan "backing the U.S?"

Please, enlighten me.

Im not too interested in Japan as a culture or anything. Im not really interested in the food either. However, I find the pubic hair on Japanese girls to be kind of fascinating. It is common to see it growing upwards in direction and its very dark color contrasted against light skin is erotic. Okay, I said it. I like Japanese triangle.

Your'e talking about Rurouni Kenshin / Samurai X...seen it about 6x already on AXN TV. The story is ok but the OAV's are better IMO.

I love anime the same reason I love Star Wars, fantasy, computer games, etc etc...

It's an escape from the dull, boring shit of the real world.

Japanese culture does fascinate me to an extent. As someone already said, it's the little differences. Things in the US that we think are bizarre are normal in Japan and vice a versa. I plan on visiting Japan in the next 5 years if financially possible.

You sound like liking Japanese stuff is a bad thing...

I'm a huge anime and manga fan. I also like a lot of Japanese pop culture (in particular I'm a HUGE J-Pop and Japanese music fan, and I think their clothing fasions are nice), and some things in Japanese culture in general. I particularly like their mythologies and legends (both religious and secular). I also like their food, toys, and model kits.

And the Japanese language is the most beautiful language in the world, in my opinion. It's perfectly suited for music.

Because japan tends to fuck-up stuff less. :P

Hell, I probably only like a handfull of Western Sci-fi; most of its so damn dull and uninspired. I stopped watching TV on a regular basis 2 years ago, most films these days suck, as well, and don't get me started on our music.

I'm not a big fan of many anime or manga, but it has a better track record in my book. So fucking what if every American reporter and his dog bends over backwards to tell the rest of the world about every single weird thing that happens in Japan, just so we can run around and practially cream our pants over how supposedly fucked up they are for having things we like to pretend we don't have? Sure, there are people over there who think parts of their own culture are 'geeky' or wierd, but shit, what's that compared here, where we can find people who hate all movies, novels, or non-inane conversation? Or people who think Pro Wrestling is real?

The manga is OK, but the show is just a 30 minute long commercial. And edited for content at that. :?

Sorry, but the same also applies in reverse - songs in English don't sound nearly as good translated into Japanese.

Plus, Japanese porn usually has either a) bukkake, which is odd to say the least, b) bondage, which I'm not in to, c) the woman ALWAYS loudly squeals and winces anytime somebody touches her, which is annoying as hell, or c) tentacles, which is beyond wrong.
I'll agree. Japanese porn is distrubing to me too and is not my style. All the girl are always too submissive and it seems as if they are forced at gunpoint to do porn, and aren't enjoying it. Ther's not enough lesbian porn, and bukkake isn't sex it's disgusting.

Which songs? I certainly can't recall any songs in Japanese that fit better with English lyrics.

For each songs should be appiled to their own language.

I've heard the translated version of some Japanese stuff...and I'm sorry, it turns to crap. And vice-versa...

Seriously I just simply listen to it, and well have friends who can translate it...if I'm truly curious.

Two songs that stand out as good translations in my memory are An Angel's Love (Ai no Tenshi) from Perfect Blue and Washu's Lullabye (Washu no Lullabye) from the Tenchi Muyo! OVA. They worked pretty damned hard to make the lyrics both accurate and fit the pace of the song.
I haven't heard the originals, but the translated opening to Yu Yu Hakusho and the closing to Dragonball aren't bad.
