Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
It's just over an hour before the 25th here and I'd like to wish the members of this board and those that are dear to them a merry Christmas.
Also, because testing, this can also be the thread to post about the gifts you're giving and the spoils you've received.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
The gifts that I'm giving this Christmas are pretty cool, I think everybody is going to like them. I'm giving a really nice hardcover stress relief color book and some high-quality tea to my mom. Her significant other is getting the Legacy version of EAs NHL series for the PS3. My little brother got $50 wired to him, I'd give him more but, I sometimes worry how he'll spend it.
For none family gifts I gave a couple of friends more coloring books because they'd hinted at wanting them. There are a few people I've missed, but I won't see most of them until after the new year anyway. For my roomie and his girlfriend, but I'll probably just pitch them a few bucks so they can have a nice night out.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
Our family traditionally opens one gift on the 24th and the rest on the 25th. So far my wife and I got a pair of Star Wars teddy bears (Darth Bear and Chewbacca Bear), and the "Not safe for work" edition of the Exploding Kittens card game.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
I thought the Christmas Loot thread was traditionally in Off-Topic...?
Let's see... this year I got a $150 gift card for Amazon, dark chocolate covered nuts (mostly almonds) and some really nice Earl Grey tea (Harney & Sons) from my sister and her family. My landlord noticed my usual winter jacket is threadbare and falling apart (it's only about 20 years old) and bought me a new one that has all sorts of high-tech material so it's lightweight as well as warm. And I bought my feet a new pair of workshoes because being able to spend an 8 hour shift on concrete floors and come home and my feet NOT hurt is a wonderful thing.
Got my sister a custom mix of dark chocolate, pecans, and dark chocolate covered pecans as well as other stuff covered in dark chocolate (guess what her favorite nuts and chocolate are...) from a local confectioner and my best wishes because, although we're doing better, that's about the limit of my budget. I'm giving the spouse and myself a dinner of corned beef and cabbage in the slow cooker which we don't get too often but do enjoy and a day where we don't have to go anywhere or do anything but spend time together.
Going to be sending letter-length e-mails to friends and folks I want to wish well and keep in contact with. Work buddies got cookies already (snickerdoodles).
Yes, it's a pretty low-key and budget holiday around here, but my finances are still limited.

£50 from my dad, much of which I spent on booze.

A ticket for the Star Wars: Identities exhibition, the Star Wars: Ultimate book and funds for the new PC I bought as my previous one expired two weeks ago. Some nice tea, chocolate and lots of cookies from friends.
the presents I gave away were also on target, so smiles all around the christmas tree.

My wife got me (among other things) a TOS style mini phaser (acts nicely as a torch!) and my stepdaughter got me a lightsaber equivalent!

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
So in addition to the Exploding Kittens card game from last night, I got a wireless charger for my cell phone, some t-shirts, and a gift card to Newegg. I got my wife a huge, fuzzy bathrobe and some bunny slippers. From her family she got a really nice sewing machine. Together from family, we also got a whopping $200 Amazon gift card, a $50 gift card to Lowes, and a huge emergency supply kit (?).

I could have sworn that I already posted this, but since it's not in the thread I'll do it again.
My wife gave me a ukulele. I do not play the ukulele, nor do I play any stringed instrument, but I guess now I get to learn.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
In fairness to her, I didn't give her much to go on. But (I'm told) she reached the point of inspiration for this gift when picking up a piano book for my daughter. I used to play the euphonium and tuba with some minor aptitude, so I can read music, but I don't play anything else these days, and she thought that I might like playing music again. I'll give it a go.Borgholio wrote:That's....a bit random...

From Nitram's side of the family: Lane Bryant gift card, a hand-knitted purple shawl, a chocolate orange, a milk chocolate "K", and pastille chocolates in two flavors (dark and milk/dark).
From my side of the family: $70 cash, a BooksAMillion gift card, and the traditional 15x21in calendar Mom's been buying for everyone since the 70s.
From my landlord: Applebees Gift Card.
I gave out fannel button-downs to my three nephews and thermal hensleys to my two godsons. Two brothers got a RDJr shirt from a Kickstarter, a sister-in-law got the other. Big brother got a large wrap/throw with an embroidered celtic boar (in Harley Davidson colors), his wife got a lovely lavendar glass perfume bottle, and the step-child got a makeup case. Mom got a tin of fancy tea and a jigsaw puzzle (cats, of course). Nitram's Mum got a jigsaw puzzle (puppies), his dad got books, and the sister-in-law and husband got Marshall U shirts.

Me: Nope, that's why I have you around to tell me.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
Today I passed on the joy of Star Wars to my 9 year old twin sons: The complete Saga on BluRay. Also got them a remote controlled R2(which was the hit of Christmas dinner at my parents house), a Lego Millennium Falcon, and they each got a remote controlled AT-AT. Sooo much Star Wars.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
Loot at present was a Fossil wristwatch, a couple of shirts, some cash, an opportunity to watch Star Wars with a couple of friends, and a 4.5 hour shift at work in the cinema. Thankfully I got to celebrate Christmas with my family last Sunday, as the cinema is on the other side of Missouri from home, and I can't disappear for a month and expect to keep a job.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
My haul was pretty good, all said and done.
80 lb punching bag from my dad, headlight assembly for my car from my dad, Game of Thrones House Lannister coffee mug from my dad, money from my dad (he's doing very well with work nowadays...), gonna be getting bag gloves from my brother, money from my mom, and a rather large summer sausage from my wife. Money's not exactly great right now, so my wife got a tasty dinner from me. I made her beef and broccoli a few nights ago. She greatly enjoys when I cook for her, so it was a good gift that isn't at all expensive.
My uncle is excited for the heavy bag to get hung up in my mom's basement, as he wants to see who can hit it harder. I'm not gonna go all-out on it until I've got the gloves lest I rip my knuckles up. We'll see if I need to invest in handwraps, too.

I got a new set of golf clubs, some clothing, and a couple of good gift certificates/cards. I gave family a mix of good cookware (as requested), video games, gift certificates, and clothing.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
I got cash. By middle-class standards, a lot of it.
However that sounds, the circumstances of it are horrible; my wife's mother passed away unexpectedly earlier in the year, and her affairs were only recently fully settled. We miss her; it was a rough Christmas for my wife. But her mom's legacy is going to prove an immense source of comfort to her daughter and grandkids.
Also I got two new Nerf guns (one from each of my boys, 'cause I'm a collector) and a towel (I get a new towel every year. It's a tradition for my wife to buy me nothing but a nice towel for Christmas. After all, a man should always know exactly where his towel is).

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
I got a bathrobe, a sweater, after shave and some Iitala wine glasses. I gave away a lot of homemade stuff this year, a cutting board from ash & walnut, an ash rolling pin, an oak rolling pin, a picture frame. Also the usual practical stuff like a pyrex measuring cup with metric and imperial, got one of them myself, too.
For the boys we got them a toy car they can sit in with an electric motor and duplos and clothes and other toys. I'm going to have to build some boxes to keep all their toys in now.

Re: Merry Christmas (The Christmas Loot Thread)
My gifts were well received, I think I nailed my Mom's gifts better than her partner did. I also got to talk to my brother on the phone and wish him a merry Christmas. At that point, I could have cared less what I got.
My haul was pretty cool. I got $150 in cash, a new set of towels, a gag gift of coupons for Dominos pizza, and some Blair's Mega Death Sauce. I'm more than happy with the gifts especially because I knew my Mom was in tough cash wise due to some Workers compensation nonsense.
