TIES are armored

Post by Typhonis 1 »

Moast of the ships in Wars must be well armored ,TIES Amidallas yacht when its shields are down.Since When they fly with there shields down we see no micrometeorite dmage done to them.Could this mean that regular small arms fire is useless against them?

This has been well established in the movies and books. Anything shy of an e-web will not harm an unshielded craft. See ESB Han only gets worried and pops the underside gun when the Stormies begin setting up the E-Web. It is also stated many times in the X-Wing books etc that small arms fire won't even effect the transparisteel let alone the actual hulls. THe only Small arms fire that comes close to this is the Blaster Pistol of the Imperial Guards IIRC.

The basic TIE is quite well protected. In many cases they've kept flying after glancing hits on their wings by fighter lasers. It seems that only multiple direct hits on the cockpit ball by fighter grade lasers will destroy the.

If you are referring to the incident in CE, the blaster weapon isnt the heavy blaster pistol the IG use, its appearence is that of a light blaster.

IG uses a heavy blaster rifle.

Kanos' weapon was clearly a disruptor.

There was a thread posted a while ago by Poe (I believe) that claimed TIEs have shields. It showed the MF's lasers striking the TIE in slow-mo and not causing any damage. Although I don't like shields, it could instead have been armor.

In the Wraith Squad books, the blasts from a rifle cause no damage to a TIEs window. Kanos has to use something as powerful as a disruptor to blast through the window of a TIE in CE.

Clearly how ?

It "looked" like a light blaster, and when he shot the various stormies, it "didnt" vape large portions of them.

He was also IIRC, a little out of the given pathetic range of disruptors.

Its only clearly a disruptor if you can't recognise that sometimes continuity and accuracy get sacrificed for a cool looking moment.

Wasn't it in one of the X-Wing books that stated that the Window of a TIE are "polarized" to prevent firing against it to shatter it??

I'm not sure which book stated that as I haven't borrowed the books for years but I quite well remember that.

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

Energy settings. And looks don't count for shit. Solo's DL-44 is visually identical to the standard but has capabilities well in excess.

One thing matters. We know a stormtrooper's blaster carbine CANNOT even score what his weapon could punch straight through.

It is either a very powerful heavy blaster pistol or a disruptor, and the difference between the two is no line in the sand; almost simply semantics.
white_rabbit wrote:He was also IIRC, a little out of the given pathetic range of disruptors.
I didn't see Kanos shooting at anything over a 50 meters or so away, and given the nature of blasters, the range is constrained only by the physical ability to accurately aim the weapon.

We see him use firepower in vast excess to an E-11. This would imply a very powerful blaster pistol. The EU tell us this is called a disruptor. The range wasn't extreme and even if it was, it could be accounted for by being a modified disruptor. Either that or it was a blaster pistol upgraded for vastly greater firepower, which is basically the same as a disruptor modified for greater range anyway. Don't argue when the options are different only in semantics.
white_rabbit wrote:Its only clearly a disruptor if you can't recognise that sometimes continuity and accuracy get sacrificed for a cool looking moment.
Bullshit. We understand it was a pistol with a maximum firepower capability vastly in excess of an E-11's maximum firepower capability. What else is there besides a disruptor?

You do not get to disregard Suspension of Disbelief and invent contradictions for your convienence.

Spare me the bullshit.

I was not aware Solo's weapon was modified any, or that it's capabilities where particularly impressive in contrast to general SW small arms

Then maybe you should watch Star Wars movies :)

OK, I'm being rude here, and I apologise. Just remember ANH scene on Tattooine and you will see what Illuminatus Primus had in mind.

I have it on my server, I also know that stormie rifles have melted doors in canon, i.o.w. feats just like what Qui-Gon's lightsaber did in TPM to that blast door.
They've also vaporized fist sized chunks of bulkheads on cloud city.

They fire massless particles but they still have momentum like a weak rifle(since in the movies they fire blanks), rough calcs give single-digit MJ range figures.

I was just using Solo's DL-44 as an example of a modified high-power SW weapon. It is the SW equivalent of a Desert Eagle as it is. Though I believe the EGTVV says the power consumption was made more efficient (more shots per pack than the stock DL-44) and it had better targeting abilities than the standard DL-44. I don't remember range or firepower in there.

How bout that disrupter rifle in JK2? When charged up, it was very powerful and could easily punch through multiple targets. So not all disrupters are short ranged weapons.

That's a FPS, so I don't think it should count.

That would fall under game mechanics, and as such isn't canon.
