Other than that, didn't pay attention.

Michael Moore's speach was the worst thing that could happen. They weren't supposed to bring anything into their speeches. It was supposed to be civil. I'm glad Moore got booed heavily. I watched the oscars, yes, because I like seeing all the beautiful gowns. Besides, it's better than watching MORE useless war coverage.
Couldn't you tell that Barbara Streisand was just chomping at the bit to say something, anything, about the war and especially Bush. It was fun to watch her skirt around and not say anything. Honestly, I was a fan of the Oscars, watched it every year, looked forward to them mostly but when I saw some of the hypocrisy and self congratulatory bullshit going on in that show it made me rethink that position. There were young men and women fighting and dying during that telecast and besides the speech by the Best Actor winner (CLASSY speech) there was hardly a note of hey, we're all hear eating caviar and congratulating oursleves for the supposed entertainment we provide while people are DYING. Yeah, lets party!! Fuckers.
Oh, a personal litttle thing is the growing movement to forgive Roman Polanski for what he did. Helloooo people he RAPED an underage girl. Let's keep that in perspective. This bullshit about forgiving and forgetting a crime that he FLED the country for just pisses me off because its all about special interests and politics. There is no justice in that movement.

I didn't even know it was going to be on yesterday until my friend turned it on. Gawd, was it always 3 hours long and chock full of pomp and moose shit? Steve Martin and Michael Moore were the only two people that made it worth watching.

Surely you jest, how could that be any worse then Eminem winning an Academy Award.Kelly Antilles wrote:Michael Moore's speach was the worst thing that could happen. Seriously though, I thought the most disgusting point of the evening was when they gave that child rapist a standing ovation...
The Academy Awards hold as much prestige over me as the Nobel Peace Prize does. Truely, some of the garbage that gets awards from either organization is telling. Blah.

And did you see how much makeup most of the actresses were wearing? Holy fuck! You'd need a sandblaster to get it all of.

Meh, I only watched it to make fun of it and bitch at the Academy for their arthouse wankfests. Me and Durandal had quite a bit of fun doing that
I really don't care, but it usually is a good indication of the current direction of Hollywood (which licks artsy-fartsy assholes at the moment, evidenced by Chicago which won an assload of awards for Harvey Weinstein), but the fact that an anime won an Oscar made me hopeful for even more imports.
As for Eminem, he doesn't irritate me as he does most of you (in fact, I kind of like him). I think it was pretty damn cool that he won, because you just know it was a total mindfuck for everyone else.
Return of the King better sweep the fucking awards next year.

I'm with George C. Scott. It's a two hour meat parade (though it's probably more than two hours now).

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
I agree...wholeheartedly. I always find that a bit odd myself, in all things.Stravo wrote:(snip)

Anyway, who was the Best Actor, and what did he say that was so classy? I'm curious.
As for my stance on the Oscars...I didn't even know they were on. Though I would watch it for Halle Barry and/or to see what skimpy thing J Lo has (I loved that one from about two years ago... No imagination needed there. And why I *loved* Halle in Monster's Ball... [Oh, and for the good story, or something like that])

Tape it ( cos i'm hardly gonna stay up till 5 in the morning) then watch it, mainly to see which brilliant film will get royally screwed over (FoTR, TTT, GoNY, sci-fi and fantasy in general) and which complete pile of shit will get the prizes because the academy seems to be a bunch of dicks! Seeing Peter O'Toole receive that award made me realise something, we're losing the older generation of talented, gentlemanly actors, the new crop are mostly a bunch of pretty boys and guys who can't string a sentence together, but look good on a magazine cover. "Entertainment" has gone to hell.

I quite honestly could not care less about what the Academy thinks. When they refuse to nominate people or movies for no reason other than to spite them, prevent them from even the potential of promoting their political views, or to create a political situation of either a positive or a negative kind, I cannot promote them. I think they have consistently hyped themselves as an anti-democratic, elitist, ignorant group of people who will promote any movie to push their views over on the masses of American people.

Seriously though, I had better things to watch, like Slayers. I really couldn't care less about the Academy Awards, since I haven't seen most of these movies anyway.

My wife had it on in the background while I was 'surfing the net'. IMNSHO this bullshit is the beginning of the End for the Oscars. Unless they pull a miracle out of their ass, no one's gonna be giving a shit about the Oscars anymore because they've successfully alienated over 80% of the American populace. And when you see something earn the wrath of that many Americans at once, you can count on seeing it get destroyed.
