Though I don't expect anything to come of it, because Obama has better things to do than debate this petty asshole, I would rather enjoy watching the President kick LaPierre's ass on national television.
At a “town hall” event on CNN last week CNN’s Anderson Cooper got President Barack Obama to say he’d “be happy to meet with the” NRA.
Now the NRA’s executive vice president, Wayne LaPierre, has put out a video saying he wouldn’t just like to meet with President Obama, but that he is challenging President Obama have a mano a mano public debate with a mutually agreed upon moderator as referee.
Though President Obama was corned by Cooper into saying he’d meet with the NRA, the president did toss fighting words at the NRA.
Here is part of the conversation between Cooper and President Obama:

President Obama: “…part of the reason I welcomed this opportunity by CNN to have a good discussion debate about it is because our position is consistently mischaracterized. And, by the way, there’s a reason why the NRA is not here. They’re just down the street. And, since this is the main reason they exist, you’d think they’d be prepared to have a debate with—”
Cooper: “They haven’t been to the White House for years—”
President Obama: “Oh, no, no, we’ve invited them.”
I would rather enjoy watching the President kick LaPierre's ass on national television.
Seeing how shitty he did with the pro-gun people that **CNN** stuck in the crowd, you're really making some assumptions about Obama's ability to debate with someone whose entire job is to be the pro-gun side.
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."
Haven't seen the CNN debate (I try to avoid that network for the most part because... its fucking shit), so I won't comment on that.
I have watched Obama in election debates, however. And while I think that he's not as good at debates as he as at speech making, he does have quite a bit of experience holding his own with experienced politicians in major debates. At the very least, I don't think he'd be a pushover.
But who knows? Maybe LaPierre would win. Would be interesting to watch either way.
