I will +1 that this ship is great. Accurate, maneuverable, good rate of fire. I always do well in that ship.

How are you playing her?
Because that is like 1/2 the average damage. You are doing something wrong.

Venator wrote:Konigsberg is best Berg. I'm finding the Nurnberg good, but not nearly as competitive against VIIIs as the Konig was against VIIs. Will definitely re-buy the Konig as a keeper ship after I finish the Nurnberg.
Nürnberg suffers from going up against vastly more accurate BBs than the Köngisberg while having little more armour. So a Nagato and Amagi will just see you, think "HMMMM, JUICY" and one citadel hit + a few pens are enough to eat you up.
Question for Thanas from a Clemson scrub;
- Is the extra torp range/damage worth the much lower RoF?
Yes. Oh god, yes. With them you can semi stealth torp - approach enemy ship head on, launch while 7-8 km away, then turn SHARP away and watch him sail into your torps while you are only detected for a few seconds, if at all. Not that easy to pull off and you will need some training but it will definitely surprise a lot of people.
- What difference does the gun upgrade make? It shows the exact same stats.
It replaces single- barrelled guns with double-barrelled ones. So it doubles your firepower.

So I played the first match in the Indy today.

LOL.

80k damage, 3 ships sunk. No damage taken by me. Also permaspotted two of their DDs, who promptly got sunk.

Holy shit, CVs are easy to play. There is literally no skill involved. All you have to do is figure out how to manual drop, which is not that big of a challenge, just torp right off their bow.

Geeez. First match in a new CV...and those results?

Lol, the Independence is now my highest damage ship in T6. And I am not a CV player at all, maybe total of 40 matches in CVs. Completely OP.

Anyone else have unexplained downtime or login issues within the last 12hrs?

I was looking forward to some hard-earned sailing :(.

Also, any WoT expats dwelling here will want to give it another whirl, they massively upped the sound quality/diversity and updated driving physics.

So I am going to make an observation that is probably going to be super unpopular:

IMO BBs need a buff in higher tiers.

"But Thanas, you got mighty Yamato and decent Montana."

Yes. But BBs are dieing out at higher tiers due to the DDfests. I have mainly been playing cruisers the past 1.5 months and it has gotten to the point at T9/10 where you often see just one or two BBs on each side. And today I decided to play BBs again and realized why.

Playing BBs is completely unrewarding right now compared to playing DDs and cruisers for the following reasons:

1. You are completely unable to push. Everybody plays high tier IJN DDs now. And you cannot push caps at high tiers in a BB.

2. You do damage that does not matter as much as capping. I played 8 matches in a Tirpitz today. My average damage was 110k. Guess how many matches I won? One. Sure, you can theoretically delete cruisers in one volley. But this rarely happens at higher tiers unless RNGesus blesses your Yama. Due to the long reload time you also lack flexibility. So most of the time you are at the back, throwing fire at enemies. Good, you make great money (500k profit even in loss). But it is unrewarding because you do not influence the battle due to 1.

3. CVs are making a comeback. WG massively buffed dive bombers and therefore the skillway is even more powerful against BBs than before.

4. There are some CAs that offer as much damage potential while also retaining other boni Roon and Hindeburg offer just as much, if not more, AP damage as any BB save Yamato. Zao offers better stealth and HE. If you are looking to do damage and you can do the same damage in a cruiser while also having better aim, better flexibility, better speed, more capping potential and you don't die to random torpwalls as you can actually dodge? Why would you play any BB at high tiers again?

5. There is only one T9/10 BB that matters. Yamato. Yamato does not give a shit about any ships besides Hindenburg/Zao/Roon. And maybe some shima torps if they are well aimed. But why would anybody play anything except the Yama if he has got the option? Yama laughs at any BB competition. And Yama might be the most viable BB as she can actually take damage from SHima and survive.

6. WG has refused to cap the number of DDs As DDs are only really countered by other DDs this will just cause matches to continue to suck

7. Radar is going to make gunboats harder Basically, being instaspotted at 10km range is death for gunboats, thus nobody will be left to counter shima/kagero.

I am massively profiting from the lack of BBs because I currently play High Tier German cruisers and Roon/Hindenburg are only really countered by BBs. But I hate the overall meta and think it is really damaging to the long-term health of the game.

+1.

I'm consistently getting 1-3 kills per game in the Clemson, despite some significant blunders of positioning. Bear in mind, that's on a laptop so shit it won't render smoke screens <5km away - my own included.

Putting 8 shells on a target with withering reload times turns Japanese DDs to scrap, while having 25% more torpedoes than say a Minekaze makes up for them being on opposite sides of the ship in CQB. I can see why it's such a clubber's paradise.

It looks like dive bombers can now regularly get 20,000 damage critical hits on stuff with whatever the Independence is flying, which is pretty absurd in rounds where two torpedoes don't do that much damage.

And those are only the 500lb bombs, Lexington and upwards get 1000 lb bombs.

Haven't managed to get any of those 20k crit hits, but so far the Indepedence - Tier VI Light Carrier - has more average damage than my Iowa.

I think I am learning the Konigsberg pretty well. It plays like a large American destroyer and somewhat like the Myogi as well. I think I got 2000 experience that game plus 100000 credits.

Upgrades include Main battery 1, Fire control system upgrade and Steering gear upgrade. Also have the FKS 5 mk II

You might want to switch out steering gear for the engine, as that is usually the most threatened module. You can survive going in circles if necessary, but you cannot survive standing still.

BTW, these two points in Expert Loader and Basics of Survivability are utterly wasted on a German cruiser.

Aware of the poor choice of commander traits but there is nothing I can really do about it now. Next trait is probably going to be last stand to help with the German Stern Problem (steering gear and engine damage susceptibility). The turret rotation buff trait is quit helpful however. All in all even with my inconsistent performance this is a real nice ship especially its laser accurate main battery.

I just suggest training a new captain then, because those two wasted skill points will be the difference between getting the all-important Concealment Expert skill at T8 or T10.

I replaced my capital and my first skill is situational awareness. My next will probably be last stand followed by the turret turning skill.

Last stand is wasted as well, I would not use it on a cruiser. Pick EM, you will need it later on.

Last Stand is appealing in theory for the glasshouse German cruisers, but there's better skills available. More importantly, you don't want to get multiple skills of the same rank, rather save up points for the juicy high-level skills.

If you're concerned about fragility (and it's entirely fair to be in a German cruiser!), run the premium damage control consumable. 22,500 credits dents your income but it's a HUGE buff to survivability between getting you moving and stopping you from burning/flooding. And the longer your laser-gun batteries are on target, the more credits you're rolling in to offset it.

I had another good battle with my new captain. Over 40k damage and 100k credits.

Also applied type 5 camo and it seems to make a big difference.
