Re: Daredevil Season 2 Thread
After last season I'm looking forward to it. Especially since I got to do background work that might actually make it on screen during a big scene involving Castle and Murdoch.

Punisher is a difficult character to use and combine with Daredevil and a no killing code. You've either got to make it clear Punisher's a villian/over a line, which then makes it harder to spin him off. Or you've got to make it seem like he's right and Daredevil's in the wrong for not killing, which is bad thing to do to your title character.
Hoping they can tread a line in between.

From what I gathered the public opinion about Castle's actions are going to be pretty split. I'm really really tempted to spoil the few nuggets from the episode I worked on.Crazedwraith wrote:Pleasedon'tfuckthisup please don't fuck this up.

Brrrrrr!! Cannot fucking wait for this. I've never really seen Punisher but he looks like he'll be an interesting foil, and this is a great way of introducing him. Plus Jon Bernthal - I'll be watching the Punisher show they're apparently making purely for that.
If this is half as good as S1, I'll be happy.

Eh, my favorite was Lundgren as Castle even though that movie isn't the greatest. Too bad he cant reprise the role.

Never really cared for The Punisher as a character... but I think he's a good contrast for Daredevil. Hope S2 is as good as S1

As an exploration of trauma and its fallout, the Punisher can be amazing. But when that is ignored so that one can focus on the SUPER AWESOME GUN VIOLENCE, it's fucking irritating.

Re: Daredevil Season 2 Thread
I think that's it. I've read maybe 2 Punisher stories that held any interest for me at all. Part of the problem is that his ethics are so far from mine I can't see him as anything but a villain, I quickly lost all sympathy for him, and he's basically an unrepentant murder from my viewpoint. Making him sympathetic is as difficult as making a serial killer sympathetic - possible, but highly unlikely from my viewpoint because what the character does I find repugnant.

Dammit, I have to work this weekend!
Well, guess I know what the nightly entertainment between dinner and bedtime is going to be for a few days. And I'll probably be shouting "I SAID NO SPOILERS!" at the spouse for a week.

Re: Daredevil Season 2 Thread
SPOILERS TO FOLLOW FOR EPISODE 1.
Just watched the first ep with the old man (this show is the only example of "superhero crap" as he calls it that he's been enthusiastic about watching - he even asked when the new season was dropping, bless him )
Really liked that they've kept the slow-burn feel to the show so far, it adds a lot of atmosphere and allows for some breathing room for the characters, without it feeling lethargic like Jessica Jones did at times. It also looks fantastic - the lighting, the composition and the camera work is all at least as excellent as last season. This is seriously one of the best-looking shows I've ever seen.
Punisher is showing a lot of potential, as I suspected he would due to Bernthal's casting, having admired his work in TWD and Fury. The first fight between Punisher and Daredevil was cool, but for some reason I wasn't expecting Matt to just get fucking shot like that. So much for character shields
I suspect Karen (who showed a nice hint of steel with her treatment of Whathisface) will discover Matt's secret as a result of that - cuts and bruises can be explained away easily enough, but a gunshot wound? Even for a couple of lawyers, that's a hefty pile of bullshit to sell...

I'm so used to seeing the Punisher as a main sympathetic character. It's really interesting seeing him as a foil to another character while those characters know so little about him.

I'm on episode 5 and it's been rock solid so far. Especially handling Frank's origin.

Re: Daredevil Season 2 Thread
Made it about halfway so far and am definitely enjoying it. Overall so far the season so far I think has been a bit better then the last and Jessica Jones. Both I enjoyed but there were some pretty dull moments while so far in season 2 I haven't really felt the need to shut it off and do something else or half watch it.
The story of Castle is fascinating. He is an unrepentant psycho but a slightly sympathetic one. I like his line of the only thing separating him and DD is one bad day. I especially love his burn of DD's method, the Arkham style revolving door. When Punisher punishes a criminal they rarely get back up. I like that the show didn't try to paint this as a good thing.
Foggy is really getting alot of screen time and thats good. He's not secondary to Matt but actually taking the lead on alot of things, really displaying some brass balls. Karen remains interesting and proactive even if at times to the point on lunacy.
Electrical Nachos......I dunno, I'm not sold on yet. Something about her rubs me the wrong way.
Imma gonna take a crack at the rest of the series today (yah for actually having the weekend off for once) and hope the quality remains up. Also hoping for a good central villain to appear, which there hasn't been yet beyond some douchey DA.

Oh man...the handling of Frank Castle is brilliant. Yes. He's one of my new favorite MCU characters.

Fibished the show last night. We got up on Saturday morning and just plowed through all thirteen episodes.
The Punisher stuff was great. But Elektra and the apparently endless waves of ninjas got really tiring.

Only got up to episode 5, but Holy Bells did Jon Bernthal completely nail The Punisher. The writing for him has been good, but man, he elevates it to a level I didn't think the Punisher deserved.
"A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it. Fifteen hundred years ago everybody knew the Earth was the center of the universe. Five hundred years ago, everybody knew the Earth was flat, and fifteen minutes ago, you knew that humans were alone on this planet. Imagine what you'll know...tomorrow."

Re: Daredevil Season 2 Thread
Finished it, loved it.
Punisher was really the highlight of the season, no if ands or buts aboot it. I kept thinking he was going to be Shane with a Punisher shirt but no, Bernthal really worked. And not one head rub. Kinda underutilized towards the end though.
Kingpin is still a scene stealer. Elektra grew on me towards the end once she did her own thing.
Enough with the freaking ninjas already. By the end I was really missing the ethnic stereotypes that were the mooks before. The show really adhered to the Conservation of Ninjutsu. One ninja almost took down Matt while whole piles of them were taken down without a problem. The ninjas were kinda stupid, using bows to fight. I understand tradition but there is a reason that the gun replaced the bow. If some dudes super ninja powers make him good with a bow I'm sure it would make him just as good with a rifle and the rifle has the added advantage of not being able to be blocked so easily, a complaint I had about the series Arrow.
Overall I enjoyed the series more then JJ or season 1 (though both of those were excellent despite the occasional bit of bore) and look forward to Luke Cage and a possible Punisher series (I'm not sure if its been confirmed yet).
