Meh, for credits it is nothing (50k profit? That is T3/4 normal game). But for flags it is pretty good.

Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? Combine with firing HE and getting at least one fire (I swapped in captains with Demo Expert wherever possible) and that turns into 100k for the other event. Not shabby.Thanas wrote:Meh, for credits it is nothing (50k profit? That is T3/4 normal game). But for flags it is pretty good.

I'd say the number one feature of the event is the 1 second map loading time!
Though the last patch really fucking improved load times overall, and I'm back to being one of the first in round. I fucking knew it was not possible that the map size was what was making it take several minutes to get into a round for the last several months, no fucking way. Purely bad programming. You should not need an SSD to have a decent load time in this game, Battlefield 4 loaded as quickly as this shit was at its worst.

Currently playing one US CV match per session. The load times give me cancer as I pray everytime "dear god, please let me get into this game before the IJN CV strikes me".
BTW, playing a US strike CV literally means you assume the IJN CV is either very nice or an idiot. Because the US CV loadouts are hilariously bad againt other CVs. Holy crap, the nation with the best carriers in history plays second fiddle to the IJN....

Well to be fair US carrier's were second par to IJN carriers at first IIRC but that changed very quickly over the course of the war or was it just our planes that were inferior? Now I'm confused-_-. Unfortunately the tech tree doesn't show that as US carriers are shit all the way up it from what I've heard (I haven't play any carriers yet) and read in chat.Thanas wrote:Currently playing one US CV match per session. And yes the load time is murderous, literally, several times I've loaded in to find that I'm already under air attack and nearly died once because of it and the bigger the ship the worse it seems to be.
Re: World of Warships
It's seemed to me like load times are a function of connection load and system spec; I got much better load times with things like Dropbox, Skype and Steam closed, but about 75% faster on my upgraded computer even with all of those things still running.
That said at worst I was loading in 30s-1min after match start. Does EU have worse servers in general?

Re: World of Warships
^I've got an i7, Nvidia GTX and 8 GB Ram. Loading into matches with 3 minutes gone happens somewhat regularly. The game loads very slowly unless you put it on a SSD on Europe.
Langley is superior to Hosho now.
AS Bogue is on the same level as Zuiho, problem is he can just strike elsewhere and sacrifice his fighters to tie yours down.
Independence is good in the 1/1/1 (1 Fighter, 1 Torp, 1 DB) loadout. Same level as Ryujo I think.
Ranger....is utter shit. Because IJN does get 2/2/2 Hiryu or 3/1/1 while you are either stuck at 1/1/1, 0/1/3 (strike) or 2/0/2 (AS). This means that even a strike Hiryu can use its fighters to tie down yours, while anything lesst than an AS Ranger gets murdered. But AS is stupid because you do no damage so you end up a succesful match with 700XP while the Hiryu - even in a loss - gets that from just landing one attack wave. And with only two fighters it is impossible to cover the whole map, so if he splits his forces and is good at manual drops....
Meanwhile, as soon as you use strike loadout you place yourself at the mercy of the IJN CV. My eyes just light up whenever I fight a strike bogue my strike Zuiho, as I can use my fighter to destroy all his bombers while he has no defence against my torp and dive bombers. Easy win.

The Ibuki fucking sucks.
You get T8 armor, T7 hitpoints and T8 guns....at T9. Hooray.
Your AP sucks and your HE does about 800 damage per shell on average.
You can't ever push, you can't take any damage and all you can do is to shell targets at 19km and hope you hit something...with a 15 second reload.
It is like a Baltimore if you decide to take away all the armor and AA from it.
This is the worst cruiser in the game, bar none.

Just got the Furutaka yesterday. Unsurprisingly, with a retraining captain and stock ship I didn't do quite as well.
Also unlocked the Mutsuki and, even with the proper 10km torps I want the Minekaze back. I now understand why the Kamikaze R exists...

So apparently the HMS Campbelltown is (a) finally coming and (b) kinda sucks.
It's a Wickes without the rear gun turret and only 3 torps per side.
On the upside, the torp range is significantly longer than her detection range.
Japantastic!

Re: World of Warships
So. I found myself with shiny new ships. I've been playuing some of them, got up to the Tier 2 Soviet ship. Went into a fight, all I-III ships, two BBs per side. It's a base cap one. I join most of the group to the south, we take out some enemy DDs and CLs, start to swing north to their base.... just as they finish off our northern wing and move to base cap. I'm with the group entering their base, finish off a wounded enemy SoCar, notice they're capping and nobody is peeling off to help (one guy further to my west was in fact not even seeming to pay attention, he actually collided with me as I changed course), so with their cap ticking past half I turn hard to port and rush that way. I cross the islands in the middle, shooting at enemies nearby, and finally acquire the DD fulfilling the cap. I've got DDs and a Bogatyr shelling me non-stop, my health is steadily going down, I take a mag hit and hit the repair team to clear it I catch fire, I lose a turret, and all the while I'm firing my bow guns like mad on their capping ships. Hit... hit... hit... their cap meter is low... and boom, the Bogatyr kills me.
But I win anyway, because by reducing their cap meter to zero with my suicide run, I give time for my three surviving allies to make the cap on their base, and they're not able to get back in time to do the same to them. We won.

Nicely done. Photo-finish cap resets - or go-down-blazing ones - are some of the most awesome moments you get in these games.
Probably my favourite moment in all of WoT was pulling a 200m+ downhill drift in my AMX CDC, snap-shooting and ammo racking a capping enemy tank,

About a third through the Ibuki. Still the worst cruiser in the game. Whoever yells that the Baltimore is worse clearly has not played the Ibuki recently.

Got my first Kracken Unleashed in the Bogatyr. Sorry no pics this time but we were losing pretty badly that match until I started raining HE on every ship in sight. Among the kills were 2 St Louis class ships. And we wound up winning that match too.

So great news for anyone with the game installed on a rotary disk, the next patch is finally going to do what I assumed was the problem, consolidate the game files! This will take so long as a patch they are suggesting that anyone with a fast internet connection simply delete and download the game again as a faster option. Its going to be more then worth the time.

Re: World of Warships
Well they totally solved the load time issue, it may still be a bit slow the first round but after that I always load well before the game starts. 2007 era samsung rotary drive hosting it, no space on my SSD for this game. It only uses 1.5 gigs of ram in the first place, it was just CPU bottlenecking from non optimized sequential loading of 200,000 files. Glorious victory on that one, I finally gave them some real capitalist money for the game over it once proven.
Still 150,000 XP short of the Des Monies myself, I can still only stand to play it a few rounds at a time. The 1:52 hit ratio I'm getting with the secondary guns is really annoying as ever. Damn Baltimore could have had another whole 8in turret or torpedo tubes if the 5in battery was to be worthless against everything.

Not really, I have a wedding coming up, but I'm expecting to see an onslaught of Derpitzes, Derplitzovs, and even the odd Derpkawica now.
Tangentially, I had a chance to visit the HMCA Haida in Hamilton over the weekend. I'll be pushing however I can to get her added eventually, as she's both very significant, relevant to existing ships (current "twin" and former flotilla-mate of the Blyskawica) and just a splendid-looking destroyer.
