A usergroup about FPS?

Post by Mitth`raw`nuruodo »

O holy moderators, this isn't a request or anything, just seeing if there is enough people to warrant even asking someone in power about this idea.

Everyone else, FPS=First Person SHooters (if you didn't know that, you probably wouldn't need to be in this group). It would include pretty much everything ever made in that genre, such as Half-Life+mods,Quake (1,2,3 and whatever else), or Jedi Knight 2 (or anything else you can think of really). This group would be just for players of FPS to discuss games and find other people that like games they do. There are groups about monkeys, discussing armour, and a No Boys Allowed club, why not this?

Again, this isn't a request, jsut seeing if the masses would be interested.

Frankly there's no need for a FPS usergroup/forum.

If there is to be a FPS forum, there must be a RTS forum, too.

Have a very nice day.

...
If you think about it, there isn't really a need for ANY type of usergroup, besides Moderators and the like.

I was thinking along the lines of being able to find people who share interests (ST/SW and FPS) and can do things (maybe a SD.NET CS clan?) such as find people to play against. I mean, there is always someone looking at the message boards, maybe that person would be willing to play a game against someone, but can't find anyone they know.

It could just be "games in general". FPS was my first thought, but just anyone that likes to play computer games would be welcome, assuming the person that decides that kinda stuff would approve.

I like the idea of a gamers usergroup, it's be good to have a few online clans based around sd.net.

I'd think a gamers usergroup would be a more deasible than the gaming forum proposed a while back, but I'd think there'd be a lack of interest.

Asst. Asst. Lt. Cmdr. Smi, that's what I was trying to figure out. If the amount of interest is enough to be a "group" (im thinking at least 15 people), then I would see if the higher-ups approve.

But there's no real reason at all for a gaming forum. Especially since games are always a staple of Off Topic. There's no need to keep it private like SoS, HAB, or GALE Force. The point is there's no point at all for a usergroup like that.

oh, well, I didn't care about a forum, just a usergroup. The forum could be open to all/non-existent

I see no need for an FPS or a Gamers forum/usergroup (since they are basically the same thing), private or public.

I was seeing how much of the general masses might see the need for something like that, but all that really matters is what the people-in-charge think.

Why would the Heavy Armor Brigade need to be secret? Isn't it just a bunch of military talk (impression I get from the Usergroups page anyway). I could see BotM and I guess the SoS (How about BoB! ), but why HAB?

Sorry, newbieness showing.

(EDIT:I guess I should throw in the other question too. If HAB is just about talking military and all that stuff, and it's secret, why shouldn't there be a similar one for gamers? Of course, if there's a good reason, I'd understand, but I can't figure it out myself, hence the questions. :) )

It's not secret - it's private. Big difference...the main one being that you can't join HAB unless you request it and meet the rigorous requirements.

Ah, ok... Point conceeded then. Guess it's so you can keep the military newbies out and have a real discussion for once?

Well, my guess is that there were a fuckload of military-oriented threads that tended to get buried in the other OT detritus, so they moved all the military talk to HAB for easy access. There isn't that much gamer talk compared to military or politics, but whatever there is is more suited in OT at the moment.

However, if Mike ever upgrades to a higher version you might get a subforum.

Ok then, rigorous requirements for this group could be, showing general knowledge of at least say, 3 computer games, and demonstrating an ability to play FPS well (for the CS/Q3/JK2 clan(s) that people could be part of.

Blah, I am typing ideas out in public for no apparent reason, jsut ignore this.

No, if we do it for first person shooters then it would need to be done for all game types, probably every active member has played a RTS or FPS game. That defeats the point. And with off topic having had a recent reduction in traffic the need is less then ever.

Mike will upgrade as soon as the good phpBB folks put out an official version 2. 0. 5, which they haven't yet. And hopefully we'll put in an Gaming forum for all types of games, including FPS.

I don't know. I guess the extreme silence is my answer.

Actually, I was thinking not to long ago about a gaming forum, not trying to be all sb.com and all, but there it's pretty much all PC'ers who seem to hate almost anything console, while I find tons of console individuals here. I would support one though.
