Vympel's first official attention whore thread!!!
For those who may be unfamiliar with the expression, 'dog' goes along the lines of 'stand up' (except stand up is in relaiton to the opposite sex), or 'snob' perhaps.
Anyway- a journey into the personal life of ... well, yours truly, which I'm sure you're all dying to know about ( ) because I am so terribly interesting and I don't think I've ever discussed a single facet of it.
So- was going to go over to my friend's place today- mission: dinner, watch Daredevil, chat it up, usual friend stuff. This guy is pretty much my oldest friend- and if the concept of 'best friend' still works at my age (21), then he's that too.
I call him up to find out what time (he's at work). He tells me I was mistaken and instead of Tuesday he actually meant Thursday. My memory is fucking perfect. I'm serious, I don't forget much. The organization was like this:
Me: "hey mate, you at home 9:00pm on Monday, if so, I'll drop by on the way home from uni and pick up TTT (yes- he has a SVCD of the Oscar judging version)"
Him: "yeah ok"
Me: "later this week, you free?"
Him: "yeah, how bout thursday"
Me: "ok fine"
*blah blah blah for a while*
hang up
two seconds later
phone rings
Him: "forgot I'm doing something on Thursday, how bout Tuesday"
Me: "ok, then I won't bother dropping in on Monday because it's just the day after (this is why I remember it)"
Him: "ok"
So- there's that disagreement, whether he meant tues or thurs. Doesn't bother me that much.
The thing that pisses me off is that after that he basically said "well whatever" and then said "i was gonna call you to tell you i can't make it on thursday either because i've got something on"
Now this pisses me off. I probe for more information.
"oh yeah, what's up?"
*it takes a few queries to get it out of him*
"ah, just me and a few of the <whoever> are going to this <whatever> jazz night"
Can anyone imagine why I'd be pissed off right now? I'll lay it out:
Me: "Ah, so basically you organized something with me until something better came along"
Him: "Yes"
what kind of fucking answer is that? Sure, it's the truth, but honestly WTF?
Him: "I was gonna ask you if you wanna go, but I didn't think you would because you don't like jazz [not true- I don't have an opinion on it]"
Me: "nah, that's fine" [fuck that!]
Conversation ended extremely shortly thereafter.
Now then- should I be pissed?

I would be if I was in your position. Fuckin' rude, that is. A best friend should know better than to do that shit.

The Jazz part who knows, but the whole
That is just wrong regardless of the situation.
part is alone enough to get pissed off.

No idea- to my knowledge, he only has one 'chick' that would warrant such behavior, but the problem is that they're 'just friends' and, if so, then the "male code" as laid out in Seinfeld doesn't apply.Zaia wrote:I would be if I was in your position. That's not how you treat a friend...unless you want to get rid of him/her.

If he got an invite to go to this jazz thing, and he's really into jazz, you can't blame him. But it would be common courtesy to invite you along as well, especially since plans were already made. That's just inconsiderate. I have some friends like this, I just blow it off, you just gotta realize that their "cause/effect" brain center just isn't functioning right, its not necessarily a slight against you.
If he actually went out of his way to plan something else that didn't involve you, that's rude and insulting.

It would be more understandable if it had something to do with a chick, but he should have told you if it was something like this (you're his friend after all), so he was being a real ass in any case.
If it's got nothing to do with a girl it's even a bit worse.

Not defening him - you have a right to be pissed off.
But it's happened to me before - and not just my friends, if you get my meaning.
I guess some people have a memory like a sieve when it comes to their dates.

I have a friend who went through a phase of doing that. You'd ask if he wanted to come out and the first thing out of his mouth would be, "Who else is going to be there." He was always looking for the best party. Even among his fucking friends! I would always played down who was coming along so he wouldn't have anything to go by. Then, the next time I saw him I always made a point of playing up whatever it was I had done. Made it sound as exciting as possible just to make him feel like he missed out.

Sounds like me. For me it's just that I'd rather hang out with some people more than with other peep. If those people are going to be there that'll dip my desire to be there more.
