So Farage and Trump's long lost twin bail after the Brexit fiasco they were so enthused about? They remind me of kids who played with matches, set something on fire and scurried away. Dickless losers the both of them.

Given that one got stabbed in the back by his 2iC and the other has succeeded in achieving his political life's goal, both of them are entirely justified in their actions.Elfdart wrote:So Farage and Trump's long lost twin bail after the Brexit fiasco they were so enthused about? Liam Fox is knocked out in round one, Stephan Crabb drops out and backs Theresa May.
Now it is Theresa May vs Michael Gove vs Andrea Leadsom. The top two in the next round of MPs voting get passed onto the membership.

PornHub has an insightful take on Boris Johnson:
Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
Sorry, my turnout 100℅ was in error. David Cameron abstained from voting, but everyone else voted.
Also, Liam Fox also backed Theresa May after being eliminated.

Breaking news announced on the BBC's facebook page just now: Michael Gove is out of the race. Thank fuck for that.

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
May or Leadsom. May would seem the mostly likely choice but it's in the hands of the conservative party as a whole now and they might want some one with proper brexitter credentials.

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
I had the misfortune of stumbling into the pub that acts as the waiting area for the local tory club during the week. From what I overheard, it was, for them, obvious it would be May, with Gove potentially lined as FS.
Leadsom is too much of an unknown, really. No real government experience, and has a already well known history of tax avoidance.
I've totally jinxed it now, right?

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
It also appears that Leadsom's CV is so embellished we're going to invade Iraq again because of it, so there's also that.
Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
So that leaves Theresa May, who wants to do away with the Human Rights Act so that Hard Men (and presumably Hard Women) can make Hard Decisions unimpeded.
Great.

She gave up on leaving the ECHR , said there was no Commons desire for it and moved on. I doubt a new bill of Rights would be any worse if we remained in it. Rights Info

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
Leadsom has pulled out after literally days of too much media scrutiny for her tastes. So basically it turns out as a coronation for May.
Next on the 'great clusterfuck of 2016' agenda: should we have a general election? May would be crazy not to take advantage whilst Labour are still in such disarray. The obvious strategy for Labour would be to run an election campaign on overturning the referendum result; but with 'remain' support disproportionately concentrated in a limited number of metropolitan constituencies and in Scotland where Labour can't get any traction against the Nationalists, I am unsure they could actually win on those terms. UKIP would have a field day in the traditional Labour areas in the North and Midlands.

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
Pretty sure, May has said she doesn't want a General Election before 2020. And in fact isn't that enshrined in law now that they're fixed terms of five years? Barring emergencies and failing to pass Queen's speeches and budgets if I understand it correctly.
Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
http://www.parliament.uk/about/how/elec ... g/general/The Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 provides for general elections to be held on the first Thursday in May every five years.
However, there are two provisions that trigger an election other than at five year intervals:
-a motion of no confidence is passed in Her Majesty's Government by a simple majority and 14 days elapses without the House passing a confidence motion in any new Government formed
-a motion for a general election is agreed by two thirds of the total number of seats in the Commons including vacant seats (currently 434 out of 650)
Previous to this Act, the Prime Minister could call a general election at any time within the five year period and not all Parliaments lasted the full five years.
So early general election if most agree to it.

Re: UK Conservative Party Leadership Race Thread
Andrea Leadsom dropped out of the leadership race, which means that Theresa May will be the new Leader and thus Prime Minister as of this Wednesday

Well, makes a nice break from the usual political trope where the lesser of two evils gets in I suppose. Now we get an equal but slightly different evil lording over us! Yay...

While i can understand the chorus of "well fuck" and indeed sympathize...given the field of candidates, did you honestly expect to not be facepalming and saying "well fuck" at this point?
