Bullshit. Such a weapon would have a very wide damage path, and be a massive waste for such a target. If the US wanted to take down Iraqi TV it would just bomb the station and its transmitters. Such was done in Yugoslavia, though the stations where given several hours warning to evacuate their buildings.

That is troops putting down an insurrection and revolt.

The US on the other hand, pegged a market in Baghdad, where they are only saying they are targeting military places like palaces and museums.
OK, now you've gone too far, Ted. Saddam's troops firing mortars at their own people who are desperate for food and water is a heinous act which can scarcely be compared to the accident you're talking about. If the Americans wanted to "accidentally" annihilate civilians, they could have killed a helluva lot more than a couple of dozen.

It's a fucking war! People die in war! Unless you plan on weeping for the dozens of dead and injured Iraqi women and children (and the 40-odd thousand childred that died as a result of US-imposed sanctions on Iraq BEFORE the war) then I suggest you grow a pair and keep in mind that WE'RE the ones invading THEM, not the other way around.
Cut the bullshit, sanctions where UN and reaffirmed by the Security Council several times. And the oil for food program should have provided more then enough for the population. However Saddam often hoarded the food and medicine, several times huge warehouses filled with supplies where found in Iraq by UN inspectors.

Seems low if it was a Tomahawk or CALCM, I'd expect a 1000 or 2000 pound warhead to kill many more. Might have been a falling SAM with a bad fuse. t one point it was being reported that the US Military had said it was a pair of Tomahawks, but those reports have ceased.
IIRC, only four Canadian soldiers died from that friendly-fire incident in Afghanistan where a 1000-lb bomb was dropped on our troops.

I've rarely been more pissed at a US military decision. Those pilots should have been hung out to dry IMO for disobeying a direct order.

Reuters: Iraqi column moves south

The most info I could find so far on the Iraqi column moving south out of Bagdad. U.S. bracing for engagement tonight.

Troops dispersed and lying down if not in trenches for firing practice make poor targets. The bomb would have wasted most of its force blasting a crater. However in this case there's no significant crater, nor any collapsed buildings though one's front was blown in. Without one or the other I can't see this being a JDAM or cruise missile. The explosion should have done or the other depending on where it struck. However, 45 causalities and soft things like a glass-building front being blown in is what you'd get from a much smaller SAM warhead.

There could be a major crater or collapsed building, but I'd think the media would be showing the worst damage.

Just heard on the Radio (ABC News cited as source) that over 1,000 troops have parachuted into Northern Iraq and more on the way from a base in Italy.

Hmm, didn't see that coming. Iraq may have to divert forces to the north afterall...

The report of a Republican guard movement south from Baghdad has been denied by CENTCOM.

And the paratroopers dropped onto an airfield in Kurdish territory. Unless they greatly increase in number Iraq has no reason to send forces. Though there mobility is quite limited anyway.

That's true, but those troops were not clustered together like people at a market place. They were relatively spread out, and lying down on the firing range practicing target shooting when they were hit. Such weapons have an absolutely devastating blast-radius. Frankly, if the market was crowded, I think everyone was lucky that so few were killed.

They need to prepare the airfield before bringing in heavy equipment, like MBT's, but they have seized the airfield and are presumably beginning those operations.

There's no way they'd have the airlift to bring in a meaningful amount of MBTs I don't think.

What do you mean? Of course they can't lift in that equipment immediately, but are you saying they can't do it now, or they can't do it before the war will end?

It would take a massive amount of aircraft that are almost certainly too busy to ship in any heavy equipment with a war going on. Lack of airlift is a big American issue. The M1 is far too heavy to move in sufficient numbers. Light vehicles, yeah perhaps, but not M1s.

Basra uprising reports false?
But correspondents in Basra for Qatar's Al-Jazeera television and for Abu Dhabi Television reported on Wednesday they had seen no signs of unrest.
Hmmm, some real objective sources there....

For what its worth, The Canadian military is sending another Sea King to the HMCS Iroquois which is in the persian gulf. This will replace the Sea King that crashed on the deck of the Iroquois a couple of weeks ago. No, the Sea King will not be flown over but instead, is being loaded on to a Saudi cargo ship en route to the Iroguois.
