The mentality of "there must be a left-wing problem that mirrors the right-wing problem" is not what Zontargs said, but it does underlie a lot of condemnation of "SJWs" on the Internet. There is this desire to be able to say that both sides are wrong, even while aligning with one of the sides. I can't say I fully understand it, but it's too common to deny.

Perhaps we should use this thread as a better place to have this conversation?Simon_Jester wrote:The mentality of "there must be a left-wing problem that mirrors the right-wing problem" is not what Zontargs said, but it does underlie a lot of condemnation of "SJWs" on the Internet. It came up in the context of the election, but in the long run the conversation fits better over there, I suppose.

A 10 point lead by Clinton was transient at best, while Sanders' lead vs. Trump was consistent over several months of polling data - just as Kasich tying Sanders and Rubio being not far behind. The Romulan Republic wrote:To be fair, Clinton was up their for a bit, or nearly, after the conventions.

If there were a legal guarantee that the nominated candidate could step down and be replaced, I would agree with you. To my knowledge, such is not the case. I'd really rather not put theoretical solutions to the test when failure to get the new person on all 50 state ballots could be the deciding factor in Trump being elected.Flagg wrote:No, sorry. If a candidate were terminally ill (or know they will be unable to do the job) they should drop out and have the party choose a replacement.Napoleon the Clown wrote:Even if she were terminally ill, that's why the vice president is a thing. Presidents have been known to die. Hillary Clinton's less horrid than Trump by any metric an honest person can name, and her choice of vice president is also exceedingly more presidential than Darth Spraytan. I'd vote for a dying Hillary Clinton before I'd vote for Donald Trump.
If you can't do the job for 4 years due to health reasons you are not qualified. And if you know it, then you're defrauding the American people. I'm voting for Clinton to be President with what's his face to be VP only to take the office of POTUS should an unforseen event occur that renders the POTUS unable to do thier duties, not "when my degenerative disease I've known about for months or years before the election renders me unqualified after I'm sworn in".

He held that lead because the republicans never attacked him, and Clinton barely touched on his weaknesses. People liked him because he wasn't Clinton or Trump, but it'd be foolish to think he'd keep his lead once people actually learned about him, his scandals, and his policies (only 32% of the us supports his policies when they know how much it will cost, and socialists are tremendously unpopular. )TimothyC wrote:A 10 point lead by Clinton was transient at best, while Sanders' lead vs. Drumpf was consistent over several months of polling data - just as Kasich tying Sanders and Rubio being not far behind. The Romulan Republic wrote:To be fair, Clinton was up their for a bit, or nearly, after the conventions.
This is the only poll which asked the question (http://www.gallup.com/poll/183713/socia ... aling.aspx), and fully half the us stated they would not vote for a socialist under any circumstances. The cold war may be over, but America still remembers it.

Re: The 2016 US Election (Part III)
Well, I would think they'd know before being nominated and it wouldn't be an issue. But if you have a terminal or cognitively degenerating illness that makes you unqualified. I mean I get where you're coming from but if Trump's brain finishes liquefying I'd expect him to step down. There's no precedent, but that's true about a lot of things.Napoleon the Clown wrote:If there were a legal guarantee that the nominated candidate could step down and be replaced, I would agree with you. It's a golden mean fallacy. Plus I wasn't mocking Zontargs, but rather the people on the left he alluded to. Thank you, come again!Crown wrote:Ah someone erroneously labelling logical fallacies on SD.net still alive and kicking. Dumbass.
Also, not what Wild Zontargs said.Simon_Jester wrote:"Logically, if one side has dangerous extremists who are actively exerting political power, the other side must ALSO have dangerous extremists with enough political power to worry about. Right?"
Remind me again who was nearly assassinated again this election cycleFlagg wrote:Yeah! All those SJW making not so vague threats against opposing politicians like when Donnie Douchebag recently said Clinton's Secret Sercive detail should be disarmed to "see what happens", Christians (or people ignorant bigots assume are Christians) being murdered just like Muslims, and demanding a wall be built on our northern border to keep those filthy Maple Suckers out of our country. Fucking SJWs!
And I never said anything about people attempting assassinations, I was referencing Donnie Douchebag saying Clinton should have unarmed Secret Service agents.

That looks eerily like a painting in a book I like, The Apocalypse Codex, featuring "New Republican Jesus" wielding a flaming sword while riding a B-52. Reality imitates fiction it seems.

To be fair the artist does various political compositions in the 'affectionate parody' genre, mostly Republican but including Obama. That's just the only one that I've seen picked up and used in earnest by supporters.

Well, this is just fucking fantastic.
Black voters are turning from Clinton to Trump in new poll
Black voters are turning from Clinton to Trump in new poll
Donald Trump is gaining support among African-American voters — whose enthusiasm for Hillary Clinton is eroding, a tracking poll released Saturday revealed.
Trump saw a 16.5 percentage-point increase in backing from African-American voters in a Los Angeles Times/University of Southern California tracking poll, up from 3.1 percent on Sept. 10 to 19.6 percent through Friday.
Meanwhile, the same poll showed Clinton’s support among that group plummeting from 90.4 percent on Sept. 10 to 71.4 percent.
Clinton’s nearly 20-point crash began Sunday, said Dan Schnur of USC. Sunday was the day Clinton was recorded collapsing while entering a Secret Service van at a 9/11 event.
The survey, which spanned through Friday, included the days in which Trump reignited the divisive “birther” issue — which critics contend is a thinly veiled attempt to undermine the legitimacy of the country’s first black president.
Late Wednesday, Trump had refused to acknowledge that President Obama was born in the United States, demurring on the topic in a Washington Post interview published the next day.
But at a bizarre press conference at Trump International, his new hotel in Washington, DC, on Friday, the tycoon conceded, “President Barack Obama was born in the United States, period.”
For the week, the poll found a 6-point rise for Trump. The Republican is now at 47.2 percent of the vote to Clinton’s 41.2 percent.
“It’s the largest shift we’ve seen in a one-week period since we began polling in July,” Schnur said.
Seeing current events as they are is wrecking me emotionally. So I say 'farewell' to this forum. For anyone who wonders.

When the debates come Trump's gonna fall
Re: The 2016 US Election (Part III)
That depends on a decent Hillary performance. Granted all she needs is decent but if Trump gets in a few meme lines or something unexpected happens that affirms a Clinton narrative it might go poorly for her. Remember debates are almost never about the debate but two or three moments or lines from a debate. A super lawyer answer from Clinton, Trump getting in a Hillary singer and her looking visibly angry or annoyed. A badly flubbed talking point or the like can get repeated 24/7 and suddenly the polls tighten again.Darth Yan wrote:When the debates come Trump's gonna fall

Yeah. Basically Donnie Douchebag will come out with slanderous and offensive bullshit statements, Clinton will scoff at them, and the media will say Donnie Douchebag won because he was aggressive and Clinton scoffed at him.Mr Bean wrote:That depends on a decent Hillary performance.
