And it's happened- Paul Ryan is abandoning Trump to focus on defending the house. Not unendorsed, but he's no longer fighting to get Trump elected.

Interesting to watch RNC and DNC fuse.

Trump dominated most of the debate. They better have a childporn video of him released next week.

Stalking her like a silverback. And what a mouth he has.

No need for kiddie porn - your champion is still digging a sufficiently massive hole by himself anyway. That big mouth of his has so much to say, yet so little to really talk about.

I present to you, the only person not in a vegetative state (that we know of) who thinks Trump won a debate and will be elected President. I mean Hillary only has a double digit lead in the polls!

Its a very exciting elections. I think he has a very good chance.

I read this thread before watching it and I almost wonder if we watched the same debate. He roasted her and triggered the shit out of many others. She stuttered andsounded like an average boring politician and he sounded new and exciting.

Post debate polls of undecideds indicate they felt Hillary won, though by how much varies. Fact checking tore into Trump.

More to the point, at double digit behind, Trump needed a slam dunk and definitely did not get it.

It was popular enough with his base that a lot of R people in races are very torn on whether to unendorse or not and for the base to be pissed at those who do- fairly ideal in my view. It was only popular with his base, doesn't stop him hemmoraging votes over the tape, and Republicans in elections have no safe
option.

Trump is effectively finished at this rate, there's less than a month left until the vote and Clinton is looking remarkably stroke/heart attack/piano falling on her in a freak accident free for the time being.

You're looking at it wrong. Die hards and hardy suporters are not going to abandon him now after both the debate and the release of the 'Grab their pussy' tape. Although, people are starting to dig out the Apprentice: the lost footage so I guess we'll see if enough damage gets done to chip away at the hardy supporters. Anyway, what you have to worry about is the middle, the undecided, the Not-So-Hardy supporters. There is a solid 20-30% that will vote for him no matter what, but that's not enough to win. HRC similarly has 30-40% willing to vote for her no matter what. You need to worry about what that debate looked like, what that tape looked like to the other 20-30% you need to elect him.

Honestly Kaine might win by a bigger margin than Hillary would. Because the Republican Party hasn't spent twenty years building up a massive head of evidence-free loathing directed at Kaine.

That would actually be darkly hilarious, watching them scramble like nothing else to build up an acceptable level of bile to this damned newcomer ("what's his damn name again?! Somebody dig up a sex scandal already!! Can we do the birth certificate thing again? What? He's WHITE?! Oh FFFFFFFFF-!!").

Worth remembering that cosmicalstorm is a white nationalist who wants Mr. Trump to win because they think Mr. Trump is the last chance for a white identity politics candidate to be elected. Based on the way they compliment Mr. Trump stalking around and trying to loom over Sec. Clinton while she talked, I assume they're also an MRA, but that's supposition.

Anyway, their opinion is worthless.

The thing is... in terms of personality and probably goals, Trump basically is like a classic third world dictator. He just happens to be in America.

Anyway, the Republican implosion continues: Speaker of the House and Arch-Weasel Paul Ryan, while not yet retracting his endorsement of Trump, has joined many other Republicans in basically abandoned his campaign, saying he won't support Trump and will focus on getting Republicans elected to Congress.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/201 ... epublicans
Top Republican Paul Ryan deserted Donald Trump on Monday after an aggressive debate attack against Hillary Clinton failed to quell mounting disgust over his attitude toward women.

The speaker of the House told congressional colleagues on a conference call that he would no longer defend Trump or campaign with him. He urged them “to do what’s best for you” to save the party’s majority and avoid giving Hillary Clinton a blank check in the White House, though stressed he was not yet formally unendorsing the party’s official nominee.

A CNN poll showed 57% of respondents felt Clinton had won the second debate, as a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey taken over the weekend showed her leading Trump by 11 points among likely voters. She is 5.8 points ahead in polling averages calculated by Real Clear Politics, a position that translates into a base of 260 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, with 165 relatively solid for Trump and 113 to play for.

Trump immediately fired back at Ryan on Twitter. “Paul Ryan should spend more time on balancing the budget, jobs and illegal immigration and not waste his time on fighting Republican nominee,” wrote Trump in a blast at the House speaker with whom he has long had a rocky relationship.

Ryan dragged his heels on endorsing Trump after the real estate developer clinched the Republican nomination in May and disinvited him from a joint appearance in Wisconsin on Saturday in the aftermath of the leaked remarks Trump made about women.

As Clinton climbed the steps to board her plane in Westchester, New York, on Monday to depart for a campaign rally in Detroit, a reporter shouted a question about whether she believed Trump would show up for the final debate. Laughing, she replied: “Yes.”

Highlights from the second presidential debate: Trump fights dirty against Clinton
Earlier the Democratic frontrunner accused Trump of stalking her on stage with an “avalanche of falsehoods” after a bullying second presidential debate that nonetheless rallied some hardcore supporters.

As America reeled from the menacing sight of Trump threatening to imprison his political opponent if elected, Democrats admitted they were caught off guard by what their campaign manager called the behavior of a “dictator of a banana republic”.

“I really find it almost unimaginable that someone could stand and just tell falsehood after falsehood,” Clinton told reporters who asked what had surprised her about the brutal night in St Louis.

“He was very … present,” she added, from a plane bound for her next rally in Detroit, after describing how she was aware of him standing close behind her as she fended off repeated attacks over sexual assault allegations against her husband and a private email server kept by the former first family.

But Trump’s glowering presence succeeded is restoring confidence among watching allies, one of whom, Nigel Farage, affectionately described him as a silver-back gorilla.

Trump ‘prowls’ behind Clinton during presidential debate
“I believe in redemption,” running mate Mike Pence, who had been rumored to be dropping out after a groping scandal that had threatened to sink the campaign, told MSNBC on Monday morning.

“I believe in second chances,” added Pence. “And I think Donald Trump in expressing genuine contrition and remorse, apologizing not only to his family but to the American people for the words that he has used, I think – and saying that he was truly embarrassed about all of it on national television last night merits grace.”

He told CNN it was “absolutely false” that he had considered quitting the ticket.

Ryan’s office was forced to clarify his position after an angry reaction among Trump supporters to his apparent concession of defeat.

“The speaker is going to spend the next month focused entirely on protecting our congressional majorities,” his press secretary AshLee Strong told the Guardian.

Regarding whether he is maintaining his endorsement of Trump, she added: “There is no update in his position at this time.”

According to one person on the call, the speaker told House members, “you all need to do what’s best for you in your district.”

Another source said that most members on the call thought Trump had won a decisive triumph in Sunday’s debate and were upset at the House leadership for distancing themselves from the party’s nominee. The tone wasn’t helped by the fact that both Ryan and House majority leader Kevin McCarthy made several pitches for members to contribute more money to the NRCC during the call.

Ryan said he will not defend Trump or campaign with him for the next 30 days but would “spend his entire energy making sure that Hillary Clinton does not get a blank check with a Democrat-controlled Congress”.
Perhaps the most notable thing here is that Paul Ryan appears to believe that the Republican House majority is in jeopardy.

Right, this could have significant effects. Of course his move there could cause Trumpites to not vote downballot, so it's a real lose-lose choice for them.

Isn't it funny for how as much as those types complain about others being triggered and sensitive, they're motivated by such petty fears?

It'll be good to see Trump's racism and sexism to go down in flames. It's bad it was stoked up at all, but at least it's being kept out of power and it looks to be dragging a number of the Republican's worst people, like Cruz and Pence, down with him.

And boy, John Boehner was so right to quit while he did. I imagine he must be looking with a combination of horror and 'I am so glad that is not my job any longer.'

I wish it was, but very unlikely even if Trump loses by a landslide, thanks to the Democrats being completely asleep at the wheel in 2010 when the Republicans used the REDMAP project to gerrymander the entire nation.

Meanwhile, the diehard right wing reactionaries hope to hold on to the Senate so that they can keep blocking any SCOTUS nominees by Hillary the same way they've been blocking Merrick Garland for the past nine months. I would love to see Democrats sweep the full board and then ram through a lot of necessary legislation that the Rethuglicans have been blocking since forever.

Well, of course the House majority is in jeopardy.

If Trump manages to explode his campaign spectacularly enough, it'll tar the rest of the Republican ticket at the very least on the Federal level and potentially even down to some state-level elections. Given how badly things are going, it's quite possible that moderate Republicans (they do exist), evangelicals and so forth, will sit back and take a closer look at the party they were accustomed to voting for.

Ryan knows this-- he's young enough that he probably has peers who are in this very situation-- and he's scrambling to prevent it. He knows Trump is a disaster for the GOP, has been as a matter of fact, and is in damage-control mode.
It's a strange world. Let's keep it that way.
