Re: Something big
I would still like to see bigger guns that take most of the blister volume, even if they had limited pivot and elevation. The rear facing weaponry could be replaced with more laterally mounted weapons.

Re: Something big
Oh a random question to evillejedi...
Do you have any high res shots of your "Fatnaught" ?
There used to be a huge gallery with those and a bunch of others... But I can't find it any more :C

Links got mixed up some time ago and I probably won't be able to recover them, but all of the content is still accessible here

Love the medium gun emplacements on the 'slopes' of the ship!
And the Heavier ones along the central spine of it. Also loved those style turrets.
And thanks eville for the link!
had forgot just how beefy that ship was! still looks amazing!

Re: Something big
I would suggest smaller "counter missile" clusters (or just smaller missiles) on the terrace, as the schematic puts missile launchers behind the bridge tower, but the wings make more sense.

Re: Something big
Here's a new concept I've been playing with. Sectors of space in Star Wars have enormous numbers of systems to patrol. We see probe droids being used to blanket recon planets in TESB, but I think there's a gap for persistent ISTAR craft; small ships could do it but it doesn't seem like a very efficient use of trained manpower. Droids are perfect for this - long endurance, low logistical requirements, fully expendable if they find something dangerous. Jump into a system, passive scan, line up on another system, do it again until fuel gets low.
So here's a droid probe ship concept, roughly shuttle/transport sized, mounting individual sensor elements from a star destroyer sensor dome, wrapped around a reactor and sensor processing core.

Re: Something big
VERY Nice!
I have said many times that part of what I love so much about your work is that you persistently "Fill In" all the various nooks and crannies of Star Wars ships and facilities. From cargo ships, fueling stations, patrol vessels, and now Probe Droids!
I think if you got more into Droids, I would love to see your take on something like an "Industrial Construction Droid" or large large scale support droid :3

Really loving the Mu-class. It's svelte.
The probe/scout droid ship looks interesting and does indeed fit a desperately needed gap in the TO&E for the Imperial Navy.
I hope to see your VicStar look fearsome. By approximations of the old EU, one VicStar was equal to or slightly better than a Dreadnought-class Cruiser -- which means that 3~5 VicStars should be able to outgun an ISD.

3-4 Dreadnaughts should be able to outmatch a VSD, and ~3 VSD should outmatch an ISD.Abacus wrote:Really loving the Mu-class. It's svelte.

Re: Something big
I'd say 3-4 Dreadnoughts would *easily* smoke a VSD.

Re: Something big
Dreadnoughts simply do not generate more power than 1/10th of an ISD, and a VSD should be equivalent to a Venator which is about 1/3rd ISD power. Geometry puts firm limits on what a Dreadnaught is capable of.
Re: Something big
Thats assuming reactor space and power scale directly with volume.

Re: Something big
True - it scales WORSE the smaller you get. Look at the size of the Acclamator plant vs Venator and the resulting output. Yeah it's a transport and probably de-rated, but a direct scale with volume should make it a lot more powerful than 1/18th Venator peak output.Patroklos wrote:Thats assuming reactor space and power scale directly with volume.

Is that about the size of say a Corellian Corvette?

Re: Something big
LOVE The completed probe!
The Tri-Pylon design reminds me a bit of the old StarCraft Protoss Probe. :3 (so cute)
The new ship you just posted... Is that also a "droid" ship? It looks, well, VERY tiny, but maybe it is perspective.

It's longer but much narrower than a Vigil - 262m main hull length:

Re: Something big
Nice!
the Sleek look to it seems to scream "Stealth/Spy ship" And all the grebe and fiddle bits reinforce the look. Im loving it.
Is it armed? I see some things that MIGHT be gun turrets, but it's hard to tell.

would it really need those bridge wing supports?

Re: Something big
Given SW materials engineering, probably not, but I thought it looked better. There are LTL on the tips though, so looked more stable that way.Patroklos wrote:would it really need those bridge wing supports?
3 turrets, 2 on bridge wings, one centerline dorsal in the tub - each pairs a single LTL and a single long-barreled heavy laser. Like the broadside mounts on the Crusader. Self defense only. It's designed to run like hell if trouble shows up, not stand and fight.

Re: Something big
I'll admit the bridge supports also look a little... Wired..I would just extend the 'structure' of the bridge out under them.

Re: Something big
I'm guessing the flat triangular greeblies are some sort of passive sensor dish for picking up any various EM signals that may be bouncing around?
Amusingly, 262m is approximately the exact length of an Iowa class battleship...
