Aberfan Disaster 50yr Anniversary

Aberfan Disaster: Where a village in Wales lost a generation

It's a photo documentary, so I can't copy and paste it. It's a sad look back at 21/10/1966, where a coal slag tipple collapsed and buried houses and a school full of children.

What horrifies me the most is the dozens of schools and hundreds of communities in WV and KY that live in the shadow of coal slurry ponds, some of which are decades old and still used. How long before one of them breaks, and we once again see disaster?

Nitram: You -are- beautiful. Anyone tries to tell you otherwise kill them.

Thank you for posting this. We had a minutes silence in work on Friday.

Special report in New Civil Engineer that looks more to future disasters https://www.newcivilengineer.com/latest ... 22.article

The top comment on that report is excellent and damning regarding the blame for that event.

Yes, I fully agree that the Mining Board was fully accountable for the damage done that day. However, like many mining companies here in WV, they got off scot-free with barely a slap on the wrist for what should have been termed Negligent Homicide.
