You Vs. Terminator

Post by Straha »

Suppose you are trapped in an arena with a terminator, and are forced to fight to the death. The one advantage you have over the terminator is that you can have any weapon you want, while the terminator has a 17th century musket, with 40 rounds, and his bare hands. Which weapon would you choose?

E-11 blastech. There are modern weapons that can destroy a terminator (if a stick of dynamite can do it, an RPG should do the trick), but you didn't list any of those. ST phasers are of highly questionable effectiveness against metallic objects; scorch marks are the most we ever see on metal in combat, and thin-walled metallic packing crates are routinely used as cover in battle. But an E-11 blows chunks out of metallic DS walls and blaster fire quickly leaves a room choked in smoke and debris, as we saw in ANH. Blasters should take apart a Terminator in short order.

Those "phased plasma rifles" mentioned in Terminator (and seen in T2) are also good enough to get the job done, but we don't know how reliable they are or how much ammo they carry, so there's a bit of a question mark there. An E-11 blastech, on the other hand, has a large ammo capacity and it can be dropped/banged around/submerged without incident (Luke's blaster survived submersion in the trash compactor's filthy water and seemed to work fine against stormtroopers during their subsequent escape).

E-11. It has demonstrated the ability to blast fist sized craters in steel, and Terminators can be killed by phased plasma pulse- rifles, which vaporize small amounts of rock. The E-11 should easily kill the Terminator with a hit or two, and the hundreds of rounds of ammunition allow for full auto fire to take the thing down fast.

IF the Musket is already loaded, the Terminator might mange to get me if the arena is fairly small, but if its say the one for Ep 2, I can move around enough that it cant hit me in time.

Depends. If it's equal weapons I'm screwed any way because my reactions and accuracy are nowhere near good enough but if I get a gun and he doesn't well blaster all the way!

My problem with the E-11 is the small amount of caried ammo. The phase plasma rifle which is shown in T1 (the terminator explanation flashback/foreward) has a fully automatic setting that was seen to visually (many more shots were fired audibly) 123 give or take 10 times without reloading(I counted). Secondly, the advantage of the E-11 being so durable would not factor in in an arena, where all your doing is shooting and ducking for cover.

Small amount of carried ammo? Have we ever seen it run out of ammo? Luke fired his a shitload of times on the DS and never looked to be running out of ammot.

Well from the size of the energy and Tibanna magazine I'd say you'd have a fair few shots before you should engage your shit drive and leg it out of there.

Of course I can't see a T-800 surviving that long... if you hit it in the right spots.

Luke didn't fire it for a near minute straight on full automatic mode. And I believe the weapons guide stated that (i'm might be wrong, but im pretty sure) the cartridge held 25 shots in it. Nothing compared to 123 straight shots without reloading.

Correct me of I'm wrong but the weapon the T-800 was carrying in that scene was far larger than the normal plasma rifles seen in T2, looked like a minigun type thing to me to be honest, and had an ammo belt hanging off the back of it.

IN the script http://www.stud.ifi.uio.no/~haakonhj/Te ... script.txt
Its refered to as a plasma rifle which is probably an understood abrieviation for the full name. Secondly why would the Arnold T-800 ask for a one shot weapon as shown in T2 when he can have the full blown automatic as his gun.[/url]

Actually, the EGWT states the E-11 has 100 shots of ammo in its energy pack. Not quite 123, but enough to get the job done for sure.

As for my gun, I'd skip the E-11 and pay a visit to his big brother, the T-21. 25 shots of ammo, unfortuantly but with full-auto fire and enough fire power to knock out an armored speeder, I'd love to see the the Terminator survive a blast within a meter or two of those things.

The T-21 can be linked to a backpack generator for near infinite ammunition. Really though, a personal shield from Dune and a M-72 or LAW-80 would work just fine.

Heck a M16 with a riflemans assualt weapon should put down a Terminator.

Have you ever seen T1??? The terminator took enough hits from the shot gun to kill out all the ducks, geese, swans, and pigeons on the earth and was able to get up, follow Reese and Sarah fast enough to grab ahold of their car as they left. This is not charecteristic of someone who would be killed by an M16.

On A side note, sorry about mistaking the E-11s capacity with its big brother, but to paraphrase Darth Gnome, it still ain't good enough to pump out (more than) 123 shots in roughly 50 seconds without reloading.

If the first shot kills your target does it matter?

See thats the thing, I doubt the first shot would kill the terminator, and being the super fast fighting machine that he is, he'd probably hole up for cover and then you have to keep him down.
But lets say you do kill him in one shot, the captors annoyed at the lack of fight from before pit you against a Terminator 1000, now which weapon do you choose?

In an arena of this size, there's no cover and you start pretty close together. The battle simply won't last 50 seconds.

Moreover, you begin with a disadvantage, as your flesh and blood human body is vastly inferior to his "hyper-alloy combat chassis". Under those conditions, long-term survivability is a non-issue. What you want is a weapon that is designed for short to mid-range combat and which can deal out of a whole lot of death in a short amount of time. Get him before he gets you.

That's a job for an SMG or a carbine, hence the E-11. It's powerful, it's got enough ammo to blow him into pieces, and it's not heavy or bulky, so if you're lucky, you can quickly draw a bead and mow him down with automatic fire before he can either jump you or bring his own weapon to bear (look at how the T-800 had to heft that big minigun-sized plasma rifle around in "The Terminator" with limited accuracy, missing Kyle repeatedly from perhaps 15 metres at most, and then try to imagine how easily you would handle it).

Notice the "M16 with a riflemans assault weapon" part. Do you know with the Rifle mans assault weapon attachment is? Clearly not…

The rifleman's assault weapon is basically the rifle grenade launcher from hell. It fits over and under the barrel of an M16. The attachment works by tapping off some of the gas released when a normal ball round is fired from the rifle and uses it to propel the grenade, which is on the launcher hung under the barrel.

The Grenade is about the size of a couple human fists and has a high explosive squash head warhead with a pound of plastic explosives in it. The Thing can kill a M48 tank frontally and is accurate to 300 meters.

Based off what Kyle's home made bombs did to the T1 terminator, this should blow the Terminator in half at the very minimal, likely it would blow it in half and knock off the head and limbs. A chest hit would likely annihilate the whole chest and send whats left flying for about 10 meters.

The best thing is, the grenade is almost all plastic, and so it can be safely used at near point blank range.
