Concept: Star-trans the Work-TIE
It started off as a joke, a Road Crew in the starwars Galaxy clearing debris from primary Hyperspace exit points.
The work-tie is the familiar Tie fighter with no weapons, and manipulator arms equiped with fusion torches coming out of the main ball structure where the lasers would go.
they were also painted bright white (But pitted from numerous micro-meterorites & lousy maintenace) and had the orange "Star*Trans" logo (with the Republic/Imperial Sunburst where the asterisic is)
anyone want to try and render that?

The scariest folk song lyrics are "My Boy Grew up to be just like me" from cats in the cradle by Harry Chapin

Like this? But manned and with TIE panels on the shoulder joints perhaps? The Yosemite Bear wrote:It started off as a joke, a Road Crew in the starwars Galaxy clearing debris from primary Hyperspace exit points.

Sounds a little like the Ball from Mobile Suit Gundam.
What started out as the SP-W03 Mobile Pod:
...was modified into the RB-79 Ball - of which ~1200 were built by the Earth Federation Space Force during the One Year War for the final assault on the Principality of Zeon's asteroid space fortress A Baoa Qu:

I believe in a sign of Zeta.

Heh, yeah, pretty much.
Anyway, since this Tie worker pod is just the reverse of the Ball concept (war to civilian rather than civilian to war) a better Gundam analogy would be this:
A Zaku Head construction mobile pod, from the manga Under the Gundam: Double Fake (which has unofficial status, BTW).
Basically take the head of an MS-06 Zaku II and convert the main camera housing into a cockpit, while adding thrusters and manipulator arms.
VF5SS: What the hell are you talking about? I'm a huge Gundam fan, and I've never heard of an "RX-76 Gunball"...

Way back on the Gundam Project BBS, I think Mark Simmons mentions that the RX-76 was a prototype ball with Luna-titainium and the whole shabang. Gunball was chosen as a pretty apt title for this unseen beast
