Well it looks awesome and very different from the dagger ships. Looking forward to seeing it detailed.fractalsponge1 wrote:Republic command ship/dreadnought.Crazedwraith wrote:Which faction? I want to say Mandalorian looking at it for some reason.

Dont know why, but ships with giant voids in them have always bugged me. Wouldn't it be better to just have a hull straight across that area and use it for something?fractalsponge1 wrote:Commission piece:

Heat radiation zone? Or... DOCKING AREAS! Docking areas or some theoretical but not-really-used capability where smaller ships in trouble maneuver themselves in the gaps and somehow get covered by the larger ship's shields and get locked in place via tractors!

When you have technology on the Star Wars level... you don't particularly have to be concerned about the architecture of your ships. Aesthetics can become as much a primary concern as function.

Re: Something big
Absolutely docking areas. I think that big centerline block forward is hangar bay, and the access is facing aft into the central void space, which is easily big enough to take the old Hammerheads, the predominant (it seems) Old Republic line warship of the era.

Also, is no one going to give me a hard time about how SO MANY fighters can fit into the Escort Carrier? No?

I am wondering if there is room for maintenance when they all cramped together in a rack like that...fractalsponge1 wrote:Also, is no one going to give me a hard time about how SO MANY fighters can fit into the Escort Carrier? No?

Re: Something big
Perhaps they only put 'ready to go' fighters on the rack? The carrier is certainly big enough to have a few maintenance bays available. Alternatively, it could simply launch a few fighters for escort duty to free up some space.Crazedwraith wrote:I am wondering if there is room for maintenance when they all cramped together in a rack like that...fractalsponge1 wrote:Also, is no one going to give me a hard time about how SO MANY fighters can fit into the Escort Carrier? I can see the existence of specially made maintenance droids that would fit into spaces human techs can't reach, as well.

Re: Something big
Of course not. But there's like, >20-30x that volume available in the rest of the forward section of the ship alone to do that stuff for, then cycle the ready fighters into the rack launching system.Crazedwraith wrote:I am wondering if there is room for maintenance when they all cramped together in a rack like that...fractalsponge1 wrote:Also, is no one going to give me a hard time about how SO MANY fighters can fit into the Escort Carrier? Re: Something big
No, presumable it's a dedicated frame for that purpose. No huge reactor for weapons, not a combatant that needs shields and armor. It's a movable box filled with fighters.fractalsponge1 wrote:Also, is no one going to give me a hard time about how SO MANY fighters can fit into the Escort Carrier? No?
I almost see it as an SW version of an LST. Small naval ship carrying a huge amount of Marines on it for landing. It is shit at anything else. Just move and land X amount of peeps. Seems small but an actual person doesn't take up that much room. Escort carrier doesn't seem big, but just has to house a fighter and a pilot to move them. Nothing fancy, nothing special. Just down and dirty move X amount of fighters from point A to point B.

Re: Something big
That KOTOR design looks like it is out of Star Trek more than Star Wars.
Re: Something big
Played all the games and TOR for 4 years, had to look it up. Looks like it's a comic thing, I've never read the comics.

Re: Something big
It is mentioned tangentially in the original KOTOR (one of the early vessels of the class was Karath's flagship) but the background and visual references are all from the comics.

Re: Something big
Waw wonderful!
I wonder if there are sub-capital or near-ISD sized sensor specialized vessels (have I asked this before already?) akin to the radar dome-equipped ship the Soviets had, based on a Kirov hull...
Like how you have that specialized carrier ship, but instead of a fighter carrier, it's specialization is in sporting those enormous domes.

Re: Something big
That looks suitably intimidating. I'm guessing that it'd be in the 8km range?
"Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"
Re: Something big
Personally I'd love to see a much lower, squatter, broader superstructure to go with the broad, wide hull shape. I do like the overall profile, though.

Re: Something big
If we accept comscan function for the domes ( ) then http://fractalsponge.net/?p=1810 is an example. There would likely be Frigate, Destroyer, and Cruiser sized variants as well.Shroom Man 777 wrote:Waw wonderful!

This thing is 8km, exact, right now. Will end up slightly above or very near Bellator firepower. Bigger volume, but will have a larger hangar and much lower acceleration and power density.

Re: Something big
But I wanted a frigate with disproportionately sized domes
