I like that, but could you tone the numbers down a bit, 90% of people won't make Captain.phongn wrote:I'll propose a modification of Jeg's system based on Saxton's Imperial Rank system.

I know, it was just a thought if a Mod didn't want a custom title for whatever reason. For that matter, if phpBB allowed it we could allow a secondary title as the custom title (subject to Administrative fiat) with the primary title as rank, but I don't think phpBB supports it without mods.IG-88E wrote:Looks good...except that all the mods have custom titles.

I can see shifting the rank break points to higher counts, but the military style rankings are fairly meaningless to us non-military types. Nothing against them per se, but until I read this thread, I was quite ignorant of the hierarchy of military titles, not a body of knowledge that personally interests me much.

Governor? A minimod's domain is functionally equivilant to perhaps a planet. Moffs control sectors while Grand Moffs control oversectors, so this should work?verilon wrote:Then would there be differences between mods and minimods?phongn wrote:I know, it was just a thought if a Mod didn't want a custom title for whatever reason. Note: I hardly expect this system to be used, but I'm bored. Further modification. Minor changes as follows.
While Midshipmen and Ensigns traditionally have the same rank insigna (though in the Imperial Navy an Ensign has an additional code cylinder, IIRC) they are independant ranks IIRC and this update reflects it.
I thought CGT Contacts would be more appropriate than Cloaked; Rebel Scum are for those who deign not to join us civilized folk
Code: Select all
1- 20 Cadet
21- 40 Midshipman
41- 75 Ensign

501- 1000 Lt. Commander

5001- 6000 Rear Admiral
6001- 7000 Vice Admiral

Besides, as a Commander you can captain your own ship!
Why not go away from Star Wars? This is a scifi sight that sticks with a semi military theme. Why not just pick real life military?
As an example here is the US military rank structure.

Is it possible to use several different ranking systems? I'm sure that there are quite a lot of people here who wouldn't mind a Soviet rank.Alyeska wrote:Why not go away from Star Wars? This is a scifi sight that sticks with a semi military theme. Why not just pick real life military?

My take on Phongn's idea. And with the exception of the Grand Admiral/(Grand) Moff discrepancy the whole thing fits the heirarchy of the Empire.
