I really want to say that your new ship is very nice again, i love it
Imperial ships always look so powerful / terrifying.
Today i flick through my Imperial Sourcebook Second Edition and i would be very happy to see one day the Assault Shuttle,Lancer Frigate or the Torpedo Sphere
I also like the fact that it looks like the engine exhausts could be disengaged at the gimbal. So if one engine is perhaps damaged and at risk of blowing up or something, it could be ejected from the ship.
"Does the walker choose the path, or the path the walker?"
Might make engine replacement easier too, just disengage the gimbal pull the broken engine out insert a new one and re-engage the gimbal.

Here here! It would be quite something to see a Dedicated ship like the Lancer receive the "Ansel Refit" that so many others have,
Of course, the question should be asked, would the Lancer have a purpose any more? After all it was created to counter what was largely a "Straw man": in any case.. That being the "Terrifying Power of Rebel Star Fighters!!!11!"
Since the era it was created was the era of WEG where ships seems to ONLY have big anti ship weapons, and seemed utterly devoid of even the most basic anti-fighter armament...

Lancers did appear in the Disney canon recently (Poe Dameron encountered several during a mission), so most likely they still served some purpose.
Anyways, would love to see Ansel-refits for the Lancers, Assault Shuttles, Torpedo Spheres, heck, practically any Imperial starship/space station that hasn't yet gotten a 3D model.
Having anti-starfighter weapons doesn't make the ship immune to star fighters though so if we assume that starfighters can harm capital ships, having dedicated anti-starfighter escorts like the lancer supporting the big ships of the fleet isn't a bad idea, also not every important ship in the imperial fleet is ISD or stronger, you'd have transports carrying troops or supplies so having a ship that can protect those from fighters means there's no need to have that much weapons on the transport themselves saving more space for troops or other cargo.

Also if you consider the ability for the lancer to essentially decimate most small planetary defense forces and pirates that rely on star fighters, you can essentially create an exclusion zone around an relatively unarmed freighter convoy that most aggressors just will not bother risking to attack. It is also conceivable that the lancers targeting systems could be dialed in to screen incoming warheads making their "anti rebel starfighter" role more useful in rebellion era fleet engagements where the Rebel heavies would typically drop fighters/bombers and jump rather than slug match fight.
I also believe the official statement from Pablo Hidalgo was that new-canon treats all EU ships, planets, vehicles and weapons as the same unless otherwise described differently. They wanted the ability to replace crap plot & character with their own half baked plots and characters
A Lancer's utility depends on the range of its guns, its acceleration, and its shields. If the quad lasers do not out-range fighter warheads, then the ship has a very niche and very subsidiary role (basically low-intensity warfare convoy escort - and by low intensity I mean no heavy MTL/teraton HTL present). If the ship is slow, then it is also condemned to the same limited role. If the shields can't take at least regular MTL fire, the ship is not survivable outside of low intensity combat. I don't honestly know the answers to any of these questions about the design, apart from games, which are totally shite at giving you useful comparative information.
A fleet anti-fighter ship has to be very agile to avoid the other side's capital secondary battery fire, and have turbolaser range to shoot down fighters before they can launch on heavier ships while avoiding having to close with enemy heavies to do so, and being able to soak a stray HTL bolt if it had to close or gets jumped. Something like a Velox is probably the edge of what is useful in a star destroyer-level action.
The big question is: what the hell was WEG smoking when it based almost all its new ships off of sex toys? If I ever made a Lancer model, expect RADICAL revisions to the profile.

No kidding. And a bit surprised that WEG would think that would have been appropriate for a family game like that. Funny thing is, it wouldn't be the first time something dirty entered the Star Wars lexicon as part of ship designs: The engines on the Star Destroyer shooting model in A New Hope were taken from egg-shaped pantyhose containers if the Star Wars Visual Guides are to be believed.

Frankly, I'd prefer it if the WEG dick-ships (including the Dreadnaught and Carrack) were associated with the rebel fleet, not the Empire. I'd think the Lancer could be especially effective against swarms of unshielded TIE fighters (and anti-ship missiles launched from TIE bombers) in situations where the cruisers and lightly armed transports came under attack.
That actually makes sense to a certain degree. Both the Dreadnought and Carrack seemed like ships one could get on the "grey" market. Also both are from pre Imperial times and most like could found in "surplus".
That said I actually feel the need to defend their designs.
While I am thrilled at Ansels work and re-envisioning, I think the whole "dildo" thing is rather overstated. Many of those ships come from a period of sci-fi when "starship" = brick. Because really they resembled big block square ships much more. Look at sci-fi movies and Tv of the time and, aside from Trek and it's saucers.. the majority of such ships were long blocky and brick like.
So.... just saying I think the dislike of them is a bit unfair given the context of when these ships were drawn and such.
