I don't, but just what would you do if your in a family with fundie/creationist (or both) parents and family members, that make you read the bible, go to church, etc (kinda like Paula Jones) how do you get away from it, etc, especially when they won't listen. Hmm, easy, you can divorce them on ground they're insane maybe.

Divorcing parents only works for retarded figure skaters.Shrykull wrote:I don't, but just what would you do if your in a family with fundie/creationist (or both) parents and family members, that make you read the bible, go to church, etc (kinda like Paula Jones) how do you get away from it, etc, especially when they won't listen. Simple solution: Patricide and Matricide. Solves two problems right there. Rids the world of fundies, and preserves the mind of an innocent child.

I wouldn't know since quite thankfully, both my parents are devout atheists for at least the 19 years since my birth.

My wife had fundie parents. It's hard to overcome that kind of relentless pressure and indoctrination, so all I can say is that one should bide his or her time until adulthood and freedom.

I have the misfortune to have a fundie mother and maternal grandmother. My father is a Catholic, so with him I can argue. I just don't tell my mother and her side of the family what I think, and I avoid the topic of religion. I let them think what it's conforting for them to think. Slightly dishonest, I know, and you may even consider it moral cowardice, but I am not keen to endure the inevitable, endless, forceful attempts to "save" me that would result were they to know that I am an athiest. If they knew, they'd simply never leave me alone.
I may tell my mother after my grandmother dies. But Nanny I will keep in the dark. Fundie she may be, but she's a kind hearted woman, and I love her dearly. She's been good to me. She really believes that the King James Bible is the inerrant word of God, and that unbelievers will burn in hell forever. If she knew what I really think, it would pain her greatly, as she would truly believe the grandson she loves so dearly is destined to be eternally tormented in hell. That would distress her to no end, and I have no desire to make her autumn years less pleasant (she's 87, so she can't have too many left). That and I know that every time I saw her again, and I mean literally every time, she'd try to "bring me back to Christ".
My mother I can hope to reach a kind of truce with. Mom's a little more open minded.

My parents aren't exactly fundies, just strongly religous. I'm glad my old man sees my point of view instead of laughing like my mother. They once had this big fight over my confirmation, her thinking that it should be done ASAP while my father wanted to make it comfortable for me. Fortunately, my dad won. Which is pretty surprising considering that he's a buisness manager for a suburban Catholic Church. My mother is a bit less subtle. We once had a big fight on abortion which ended up with me throwing up my hands in frustration, and swearing all the way downstairs.

I had a fundie father; as a matter of fact, he was a preacher. My mother pretty much went along with my father, even though she was not a Christian. I remember fighting every Sunday with my father about having to go to church. I was not a Christian and I did not want to be one. It really pissed me off. My father would never even listen to what I had to say, I had to go church Sunday morning, Sunday evening and also on Wednesdays.
What's worse were the people that I got exposed to. When I was a kid, I had a grown man (church member) attempt to take sexual advantage of me. I also had one man from the church who was clinicly psychotic call me late one night to tell me that he loved me. Keep in my mind that all of these people were attending the church and were friends of my preacher father. I also met some of the stupidest people ever. The youth pastor was a graduate of a "Bible school" and would constantly tell me that I had to believe in a literal interpretation of the Bible. Most of these people expected me to act a certain way, so it's like I had to put up a bullshit image. I could go on and on.
I am still a bit angry with my father for making me go through the experiences that I had to go through. I also think that any parent tries to brainwash their child into becoming a Christian should be guilty of a crime. Nobody has the right to force this indoctrination on anyone else.
Anyway, when I moved off to college I found something that I was good at: school and body building. I still have little patience with fundies, however, and I can't tell you how many that I have debated with and won. I am just happy my childhood is over; that simpleton belief system was pure bullshit.

Well, my mother is the daughter of a Lutheran priest, but she doesn't interpretate the bible literally. In fact, she barely qualifies as Christian.

My parents were never really religious, although my father is turning slightly that way as his age counts upwards.
-However, he believes that religion is a personal thing, and that is a perfectly respectable point of view, in my opinion.

My parents are religous, but not fundies. However, the relatives on my father's side are more religous. But since we're related and I enjoy seeing them, I don't mind. Still, I usually avoid the topic of religion with my family, because they're probably going ot bug me because of it.

You know, I'm beginning to suspect most people who hate Church were some how emotionally scarred from it. But that's akin to judging an entire race/culture from a few bad apples. Luckily, the people I grew up around were extraordinary people in their character, belief, and intellect.
At any rate.. my mom is Christian and my dad isn't. At first he used to tease us constantly and whenever we were alone he would try to share his viewpoints with me and my dad is one of the few people I truly respect for the accomplishments in his life. However, I couldn't agree with him and neither could he with mine but he respects it. My brother is the faaaaaaaar antithesis of a Christian, but he likewise respects Christianity for what it is, he just says it isn't for him. In other words, my family has been divided on the issue but each side respects the other.
There's a name in the Korean community for certain types of kids, called PK-Kids (Pastor's Kids). They're called that because as soon as they get out of their parents' wings they go nuts and delve into a sprial of hedonistic madness. Of course this is actually a minority, but most will try experimenting and putting their toe in the water.
I believe it's frustrating for Pastor's/Minister's children. The parents desperately want to raise good ethics and morals in their kids but try too hard and set too many boundaries as they're growing up. I understand why, but I don't agree with their methods. A kid should be allowed to grow up and see the world and make a choice about which world they want, that is part of what being a Christian is all about, not being forced. But you can definately sympathize with the parents' stance on the issue.

The Church is quite good at doing that to people. There are also people who are victimized by its policies, as well as people who are enticed by others to study the Bible and become repulsed by its abhorrent violence and intolerance.Trytostaydead wrote:You know, I'm beginning to suspect most people who hate Church were some how emotionally scarred from it.

well my parents are fundie atheists, both are doctors and have seen alot of death of infants and so on. They left me to believe what i wanted to, (i was taught by school to believe in god and jesus etc, until i realised alot of it didnt make sense) then i went satanist for a while, as in proper anti christian darkness stuff, then realised it was just because of christianity, so i left all that behind and became atheist. Then i was agnostic with atheistic tendencies till this year when i just redefined the universe as god.
As for my parents, they will not be swayed to the possibility of any gods ever.I leave them to it and get along all right, until they complain at me for not having a job again.
