Actually, the fact is that even "U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Stanley McChrystal said the Pentagon did not know what caused the damage and deaths at the marketplace" (from CNN), although the fact that it happened to coincide with a US missile attack on Baghdad is certainly reasonable justification for Al-Jazeera to report that there was a US missile attack and these were casualties of it. If you're trying to prove that Al-Jazeera has no credibility, you're barking up the wrong tree. There is no evidence of dishonesty here, especially if they were reporting "at the scene".

FYI if we are talking about the market incident, I hear on the BBC the same report; that it was an American missile attack (that malfunctioned).

Two stories I've heard on that:

1. Malfunctioned or damaged guidance on a US missile
2. Iraqi SAM that went up after a US missile, missed, came down

From what I've seen on the news, the US is saying that we don't know what happened but it wasn't one of ours that hit them.

As Jegs pointed out an Iraqi SAM is a possibility.

I'm not saying that Al-Jezeera has no credibilty. Merely that they're readiness to toe the Pro-Arab story and willingness to automatically assume the worse makes them an unreliable source all on their own.

If you don't consider massive bias, a willingness to report the worst cases for the US, and their blatantly passing propoganda along no reason to doubt their credibilty. You're asking if you can trust Al-Jezeera and the answer is not that much.

For fuck's sake, they've already admitted they were targeting enemy SAMs in the area- and it's not like PGMs are perfect- look at Tomahwaks, somethimes they miss the country all together. The whole point is we cannot trust ANY news broadcast of any sort, be it CNN, Fox, Al-Jazeera, Iraqi, etc. Both sides are of course going to bend things to THEIR SIDE.

Personally, I think they should pull out all cameras and news people and let the two factions fight it out and count the dead after it's over with.
