If someone gets it, let me know. My grandmother's last name is Weir, and I've never seen the word anywhere else before.

I mean creating a law that says RETAILERS are resonsible for their kids, because they are so scared their children will see GTA3 and go out and kill hookers and jack cars, is just another sign of being lazy.

I mean blaming salesmen on how they handle your children is no different then blaming TV for their development.
So I assume you also endorse the removal of all age restrictions on films, so that when the kid says 'I'm going to the pictures', and, say you don't want your kid watching, for example, Event Horizon, you have to go with him to make sure he watches Shrek instead?

Parents can't keep an eye on their kids all the time - that's what growing up is about - so if you think your kid is not ready for GTA3 (after, presumably, having played it yourself), howare you going to stop him from buying it when he goes shopping with his mates?
At least rating allow the parent to understand, what I am pissed off is this is yet another event where parents want something else other then them to look after their kids.

And heck I feel sorry for the retailors of electronics, because I've worked that job and know how little parents even read the bloody thing.

I really don't to be cruel or anything, but because he/she is sold GTA 3 does not make that 15-16 pimply counter boy responsible for the child's well being. Keep the rating but enforcing it to the point one can fine the store? Why, because parents are geting so lazy to just simply shift blame?

Fuck them, if they can't at least raise the kid so little Jimmy doesn't believe GTA3 isn't real, those parents have failed because TV, usher, retail workers are NOT babysitters.

It's not about shifting blame, it's about having some sort of confidence that your kid is not going to waste his money on something that's not suitable for him.
That pimply counter boy should know better than to sell GTA to a 12 year old kid. And if he doesn't, then the institution deserves to be fined.

It's either that or remove all classification, and have the parents follow the kid around so hedoen't get GTA from the games shop, a porn film from the video shop and watch a violent horro film at the cinema.

But it is.

They are making it a LAW so that retailors are blamed for their fuck-ups.

Because their kids buy products they don't approve because the kids don't give a damn does not make it the retailors fault. It's theirs.

If they can't instill into the child to respect their wishes, then they have fucked up.

You can't card a 12 year old. The game ratings are different from movies. The only way to actually enforce this law is to make everyone own some sort of id that gives your age and birthdate.

Then again, they can do just like they do at the movies. Walk up to a couple and say "would you buy this game for me? I have the money." (as opposed to "would you get me a ticket for so-n-so movie? I have the money") There are ways around everything.

I think the look they gave us was more of a bemused eye-rolling kind of look :)
My friends and I get those kinds of looks in public whenever we discuss violence in the media, sex and sexy people, and the international Zionist conspiracy.

How is a 12 game different from a 12 film? I've never carreid a PoA card, to see a 12, 15 or 18 .

Which is what they do for cigarettes, alcohol and porn. So what?
