I'll propose a modification of Jeg's system based on Saxton's Imperial Rank system.

Code: Select all

      1- 19 Cadet
     20- 50 Midshipman/Ensign
     51- 100 Acting Sub-Lieutenant
    101- 250 Sub-Lieutenant
    251- 500 Lieutenant
    501- 1000 Lt. Commander
   1001- 2000 Commander
   2001- 3000 Captain
   3001- 4000 Line Captain
   4001- 5000 Commodore
   5001- 6000 Rear Admiral
   6001- 7000 Vice Admiral
   7001- 8000 Admiral
   8001- 9000 Fleet Admiral
   9001-10000 High Admiral
  10000+ Grand Admiral

I like that, but could you tone the numbers down a bit, 90% of people won't make Captain.

And yet every other week yet another person makes it to 1500 posts...

In any case, would we suggest a change for "flamewarriors" to Imperial names?

I know, it was just a thought if a Mod didn't want a custom title for whatever reason. For that matter, if phpBB allowed it we could allow a secondary title as the custom title (subject to Administrative fiat) with the primary title as rank, but I don't think phpBB supports it without mods.

I can see shifting the rank break points to higher counts, but the military style rankings are fairly meaningless to us non-military types. Nothing against them per se, but until I read this thread, I was quite ignorant of the hierarchy of military titles, not a body of knowledge that personally interests me much.

and woo hoo, this is post 600, only 66 more to go

Imperial Subjects, though some of us (like me) are really Rebel Scum ;)

Then would there be differences between mods and minimods?

Governor? A minimod's domain is functionally equivilant to perhaps a planet. Moffs control sectors while Grand Moffs control oversectors, so this should work?

Note: I hardly expect this system to be used, but I'm bored. Further modification. Minor changes as follows.

Code: Select all

      1- 20 Cadet
     21- 40 Midshipman
     41- 75 Ensign
     76- 100 Acting Sub-Lieutenant
    101- 250 Sub-Lieutenant
    251- 500 Lieutenant
    501- 1000 Lt. Commander
   1001- 1500 Commander
   1501- 2500 Captain
   2501- 3750 Line Captain
   3751- 5000 Commodore
   5001- 6000 Rear Admiral
   6001- 7000 Vice Admiral
   7001- 8000 Admiral
   8001- 9000 Fleet Admiral
   9001-10000 High Admiral
  10000+ Grand Admiral

Rebel Scum [Lurkers]
While Midshipmen and Ensigns traditionally have the same rank insigna (though in the Imperial Navy an Ensign has an additional code cylinder, IIRC) they are independant ranks IIRC and this update reflects it.

I thought CGT Contacts would be more appropriate than Cloaked; Rebel Scum are for those who deign not to join us civilized folk ;)

I support phongn's latest suggestion, the Imperial ranks are way cooler then Jedi ones and more fitting since this is the Stardestroyer.NET.

Then micromod=Gov, and the minimods would still be the "Harbringers of Doom" or maybe something else, like Dark Troopers?

Micromods are Governors, Minimods are Viceroys? Dark Troopers might work, but they lacked political power - they could only bust heads. Minimods can do more than that.

Why not go away from Star Wars? This is a scifi sight that sticks with a semi military theme. Why not just pick real life military?

As an example here is the US military rank structure.

Is it possible to use several different ranking systems? I'm sure that there are quite a lot of people here who wouldn't mind a Soviet rank.

Have a very nice day.

My take on Phongn's idea. And with the exception of the Grand Admiral/(Grand) Moff discrepancy the whole thing fits the heirarchy of the Empire.
