The Inner Sphere will tremble once again!

Post by Highlord Laan »

http://www.pcgamer.com/paradox-and-hare ... t-trailer/
At PDXCon in Stockholm today, Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes announced they are partnering to bring us the new turn-based tactical strategy game Battletech. You can watch the first trailer above.

“We couldn’t miss the chance to work with Harebrained Schemes given how big of fans we are of their work on the Shadowrun Returns series. The opportunity to reintroduce our strategy-minded players to the tactical roots of the BattleTech universe makes this partnership even sweeter,” said Johan Sjöberg, Chief Product Officer of Paradox Interactive.

No specific launch date has been announced, but we're told Battletech will arrive sometime in 2017.

I wonder if any of the Unseen will show up.

They'll most likely use the new copyright friendly designs for all those mechs if they include them.

This game was actually kickstarted back in 2015, so it's probably pretty far along.

It indeed seems to be pretty far along. I stumbled upon this gameplay video yesterday:

Looks good to me so far.

As of last check, the mech list is:

LIGHT
Locust
Commando
Spider
Firestarter
Jenner
Panther
Urbanmech
Raven

MEDIUM
Cicada
Blackjack
Vindicator
Centurion
Enforcer
Hunchback
Trebuchet
Griffin
Kintaro
Shadowhawk
Wolverine

HEAVY
Dragon
Quickdraw
Catapult
JagerMech
Thunderbolt
Grasshopper
Orion
Marauder
Warhammer
Cataphract

ASSAULT
Awesome
Victor
Zeus
BattleMaster
Stalker
Highlander
Banshee
King Crab
Atlas

HBS is using PGI's mech models, so the Warhammer and Marauder will be basically the same as in MechWarrior Online. Assuming any future adds would also have to come from the MWO roster, the possibilities are Wolfhound, Javelin, Assassin, Phoenix Hawk, Crab, Bushwacker, Kintaro, Rifleman, Archer, Black Knight, Cyclops and Mauler (ignoring Clan mechs).

Sad that there's no Clan Mechs planned atm; Timberwolf is my favourite. :(

Hopefully they'll release them later.

HBS set the game in 3025, so well before the Clan invasion. They have stated if it does well, they would like to do expansions that advance the time line.

So Madcat is a Clan design? Too bad.

It's a Timber Wolf :p

That said, I suppose you could tide yourself over with a Catapult and/or Marauder... ( hence mad cat, the timber wolf looks like what you'd get if those two IS mechs had offspring )
I do know how to spell
AniThyng is merely the name I gave to what became my favourite Baldur's Gate II mage character :P

Ya, Timberwolf is the official Clan name. MadCat was the Inner Sphere designation given because when the Clan Invasion started their sensors couldn't ID the mech and kept alternating between the Marauder and the Catapult.

While we're at it (original clan names on left):

Adder (Puma)
Dire Wolf (Daishi)
Executioner (Gladiator)
Fire Moth (Dasher)
Gargoyle (Man O' War)
Hellbringer (Loki)
Ice Ferret (Fenris)
Kit Fox (Uller)
Mad Dog (Vulture)
Mist Lynx (Koshi)
Nova (Black Hawk)
Timber Wolf (Mad Cat)
Stormcrow (Ryoken)
Summoner (Thor)
Viper (Dragonfly)
Warhawk (Masakari)

I got into the universe via MechWarrior 2, so it'll always be the Clan names for me :P
