It's a metasyntactic variable that can, frankly, mean anything.

When you hear that something has been FUBARed... well, you do the math. What other word begins with F and describes what's happened (in a bad sense) to something?

Yeah, well, the NHM's been holding a Darwin's birthday lecture for years.

So hwat, that doen't make it a religion. We also celbrate the Queen's birthday. Doesn't the US celebrate Lincoln's birthday?

US doesn't quite celebrate Lincoln's brithday, or Washington's birthday either. We appear to celebrate a holiday called "PResident's Day" which is, IIRc, a national holiday somewhere between the two.

It's based on radio call signs used in the military to make sure radio content is not lost to static.
