Good luck for both of them and hopefully they'll return soon and safe.

My friends over there: Specialist Tom Black, Combat Engineer with the 3rd ID.

Sgt. Chloe Bauer, Cargo Handler, in either Kuwait or Um-Qasr.

And I just got word from another friend, SFC Dorsey Riddle just got her letter and will be going to southern Iraq in a few days. She's an NBC expert but they're sending her as a cook!

No letter for me yet, but everyone in my unit has been told "don't be surprised".

Looks as though Cmdr. Wilkens needs to be mentioned here, as well. We'll be looking for you when you get home!

Good luck to my friend Crawley, who is presently flying sorties every day out of Kuwait in his GR4 (he is a WSO).

Oh, and how could I forget my old associate Jamie Budgen, who is only 18 years old yet is driving a Challanger II MBT in Iraq as we speak. Good luck to you!

I'm on Reserve drill this weekend and found out that some more of my buddies have been shipped, and are also at the tip of the spear with the 3rd ID:

Sgt. Ken Bouy
Ssgt. Daina Sites
Ssgt. Richard Hartley

All Engineers (Sappers), leading the guys through minefields and barbed wire... best of all things to everyone mentioned on this thread.

Latest upgrade of the Tornado, how the British designation system works. The Harrier for example is up to GR.9. Under the American system letters are used.

With only a few aircraft types in British service, and no one else using the system is common to refer to some aircraft as just GR.4 or GR.9 ect... and drop the actual name.

And in the Good News dep't...

My friend SFC Dorsey Riddle did not get deployed. My Reserve unit refused to give up a WMD expert so she could be sent off as a cook for the 4th ID! Wise choice.

The rest of my buddies soldier on, and as the media has gushed in the past about what an outstanding job the Engineers have done, the seem to be kicking ass for Unca' Sam.

May all those mentioned here come home safe and sound!
