... is a completed defense with all committee members' signatures. Now all that stands between me and some letters is paperwork.

Impeccable timing, too. This thread was posted on a date 100 years since Finland gave its declaration of independence, you got your degree confirmed the day after and today (100 years after our Declaration of Independence was ratified by the Parliament), you can celebrate both your degree and Finland's Indpendence day! :p

And congrats Surl :) I still say American schools should follow the Finnish (or is it Swedish?) tradition of giving Ph.D graduates a top hat and a sword...
