Firewalls to be illegal in several US states

Apparently, poorly written law could make firewalls illegal in several US states.

What you're seeing here is the age gap between legislators and most of the people who understand computers. You'd have to be a total technical ignoramus to write a bill making it illegal to conceal the origin or destination of a packet of data and not think there wouldn't be unintended consequences. Never mind the total ass raping of the right to privacy.

Every day I wake up with a fresh hope for the human race and everyday an American shoots that down.

Well alright, maybe not an American, but more often than ever I'm weeping for the species.

To be frightfully mellowdramatic in my description....

Imaging your computer is a house....and you dont want anyone getting in without you knowing about it.....so you pour a lot of petrol in a big circle around your house and set it on fire....now people cant sneak up to your house very easily....you then put a big bridge with a gun wielding loony on it to let your friends in and out and shoot people you dont want.....

In short it protects your computer from unauthorised things coming in or out.....

What kills me is that probably 99 percent of the legislators who tinker with laws governing the Internet/networks/and other probably don't even know there the "on" switch is on a computer. GRRR

They prevent 3rd parties from entering your computers.
This fucking country really amazes me sometimes. Apparently, we have monkeys to write all of the laws (or monkeys who blindly enforce the old laws), just like the monkeys that design the highway systems! YAY!

Don't they block you from certain thing? Like online gaming, if I remember one complaint I saw.

I noticed TN was one of the states in question, yet, in local or statewide news, I have yet to hear anything about it.

I Googled 'Firewall Ban' and 'State Firewall Ban' and returned nothing like this.

I am going with the false alarm on this one.

Oh joy. I've got a laptop full of sensitive financial information, and with no fire wall there's gonna be hackers stealing bank account numbers left and right.

EDIT: Goodie, Ohio isn't one of the states. Just saw that part. :P

Is Louisiana one of them? It better not be (I wouldn't be surprised if it was tho, we still have a fucking Sodomy law)

I'm in Australia, if Dubya supports this bill our government will probably put it on us.

As I said, nothing of this sort has even been mentioned in any Tennessee media outlet, and I am taking it with a grain of salt till I see another source.

Also, as previously stated, I Googled it, but didn't come back with anything worth mentioning.

With the inherent brilliance of the California legislature, I'm actually amazed they haven't jumped on this bandwagon yet--considering that we seem to be #1 in limiting people's rights.

I do have my doubts about this, though. Maybe a more thorough Googling will do the trick...

OK, here are the results:

That seems to be it, though. I had a few other results, but two were from The Inquirer and the others were from other lawsuits relating to the DMCA.

It wouldn't be under firewall ban. Firewall banning would be a side effect of the bill.

I wouldn't worry, Shrubya wouldn't allow such a bill. After all, he's a smart person isn't he?
