Arrghhh! I got poison oak!

Post by Superman »

Dang it! I just realized that this itchy rash on my arm is from poison oak. I must have been exposed to it on Wednesday in my field biology class! We went out to a place that probably had a ton of it growing, but I didn't see any... Oh well... I guess I'll just let it run its course.

Ouch, I had a similar experience once, you should be ok in 3-4 days.

Isn't this the one that'll spread to other parts of the body by touching (ie: scratch affected area, then scratch elsewhere)?

If so, looks like no more porn for you until it passes.

LOL

No, poison oak can only spread by more exposure to the oil from the plant that causes it. But, for example, if my backpack rubbed up against it then anytime I put it back on I could re-expose another part of my body.

Scratching does not actually spread the rash; that's just a myth, but it still sucks big time ass.

Ha Ha! I don't get reactions to Poison Ivy/Oak/Etc! I can wallow in the stuff all day and not get any rash whatsoever! Can't say the same for anyone who follows me in or touches me afterward!

Yeah, according to the literature on this stuff, one in four people are not affected by it. Be careful though, you can become sensitive to it overnight.

So, if I throw some guy's blow up doll into some poison oak, and make sure to rub it around with it nice and good, and put it back where I found it...

Wow, I just read that if it is burned, the smoke can be inhaled and cause some serious problems in the lungs. People can die from inhalation of this stuff.

Sorry to gloat, but I'm immune to both poison oak and poison ivy. On the downside I'm allergic to bee stings and I'll break out in a full body rash within a 2-3 hours of getting stung by a bee. Nothing that a shot of benedryle(?) at a hospital and a few pills won't take care of, and it's not life threatening or anything, it just itches like a bastard.

Thats like my friend, except he gets swelling as well as a rash.

It was really funny once, he got stung on the mouth, and his faced looked like the Michelin man a few hours later. Of course, the swelling shut his eyes as well, but he was back at school a few days later.

Ouch.

I hate poison oak/ivy. But, it is one of the things you live with if you go into the woods very often, and living in a very rural area, you kinda learn to live with it.

Of course, there is the one time my ex-hubbie decided to take a piss while out camping....

Thank GOD we'd not had sex that night... or any other night for the next 3 weeks...

It wont spread the oak caused rash, but it can directly irritate the skin causing a similar effect.

HAHA!!!

Used to get that stuff about twice a month every summer, sucked real bad... On that note, a inch diameter vine thingie dangling from a tree in an area with lots of poison oak, is most likely poison oak... I know this one from experience...

When I get that shit, I use saltwater to ease the pain. You can make some home made saltwater by boiling water and puting salt in it. It will sting a little, but it should relieve the itch for a while. It really sucks you get it in your face, like I always use to do  I hope that works.

Try, this was at a summer camp and I persuaded most of the other people there to swing on it, like I did... Funny thing was I was the last one to get covered with the rash, however I think the only parts of me without the rash was between my legs, my armpits, and about half of my face... One poor schmuck had it on the balls.

Definately was a blast to be swinging on that thing around the tree over a 10 foot drop.
