Had my first cigarette last night

It was wierd. I wasn't breathing it all the way in, just keeping it in the mouth, not all the way down to my lungs- my friend's friend gave me one for 'the image' apparently (we were at a nightclub- Watershed).

So why do people do this again? It made my hands stink, my mouth taste funny, and I got nothing good out of it.

I tried one once. I really can't imagine why anyone would try it more then once other then to meet their peer groups social expectations (aka peer pressure). Or to put it another way, they want to be cool. If anyone disagrees with this, speak up and let me know why Im wrong.

(Soccer Mom): People do it to get the nicotine, then they start and just keep going, before you know it's pot, then it's heroin, then it's crack, and then you're found dead on an overdose, homeless in a gutter.

(Hippie): People do it because it keeps us over while we aren't stoned man.

(Reality): People do it because they neglect the health threats for short/medium term enjoyment.

I've been smoking for 19 years, I still enjoy it, despite the stinky fingers, et al....
Do yourself a favor though, make sure your first is your last. Particularly now that any curiosity is satisfied.

Documents released from Westminster dating from 30 years ago show that the Health Minister believed that smoking was incredibly bad for the health, and wanted to introduce new laws that would force manufacturers to put info saying how bad smoking was on their packets, and also laws that would allow municipalites to ban smoking in pubs, restaurants, etc...
In the end, the PM scuttled that, as they discovered that the increased amount of senior citizens, etc. on social programs would've cost the government more than that gained in fines.

So they allowed people to smoke, so that they would die earlier.

You were being lied to, probably by the usual suspects (sexual prudes who try to generate pseudoscientific justifications for their hangups). With the proper use of lube, it's completely safe and causes no harm whatsoever.

You'd be surprised at how easy it is to fall into the addiction, especially if you pick up the habit of bumming one when you and your friends are talking at a bar or club. For a lot of people, the psychological addiction is just as bad as the physical addiction.
