Saudis Kill Journalist in Instanbul Consulate

Appearantly they just found bodyparts and a mutilated face in the garden of the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Suicide by attacking a 15-man kill team and accidentally falling on a bone saw seems more and more less likely.

I think they meant to send a message given the method and location but ran into way more pushback than expected. That's the only thing that explains all the back pedaling and lack of any attempt to hide the body.

At least they found his body, so his family can hopefully give him a decent funeral, and maybe gain some solace from it for themselves.

And yeah, I don't think anyone remotely reasonable buys the accidental death story. This was brutal, premeditated murder, followed by an elaborate cover-up (aided and abetted by the President of the United States).

Trump finally lays into the Saudis... by criticizing the incompetence of their murder and cover-up:

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump spoke contemptuously about the murder plot: "They had a very bad original concept. It was carried out poorly and the cover-up was one of the worst in the history of cover-ups."

He returned to the theme of how the crime had been carried out at a dinner with military leaders: "They did a bad job of execution and they did a bad job of talking about it or covering it up," he said.

"I'm saying they should never have thought about it. Once they thought about it, everything else they did was bad too ...It should have never happened."

Maybe, but he honestly sounds more upset by the fact that they didn't do a better job of hiding it (and thus put him in a difficult spot), than by the atrocity itself.
