When did the NX-01 have long range torps, the NCC-1701 did in the Kelvin timeline but she's also a lot larger then the NX-01.

That's a typo for the NCC-1701, yes.

IIRC from the directors commentary the image they were aiming for was the ballistic missile launch tubes on SSBNs rather then broadside cannons.

I can well believe that's what they were aiming for, but they certainly achieved the broadside look; honestly if I was putting a set of VLS cell type launchers on a starship I'd probably put them between the Nacelles on the dorsal side. It may not make as much practical sense but it would code better to the audience as a modern weapon I think.

Closest I've seen to that are the 303/304s on Stargate and even that looked more like the VLS on a 688I than an SSBN.
'Next time I let Superman take charge, just hit me. Real hard.'
'You're a princess from a society of immortal warriors. I'm a rich kid with issues. Lots of issues.'
'No. No dating for the Batman. It might cut into your brooding time.'
'Tactically we have multiple objectives. So we need to split into teams.'-'Dibs on the Amazon!'
'Hey, we both have a Martian's phone number on our speed dial. I think I deserve the benefit of the doubt.'
'You know, for a guy with like 50 different kinds of vision, you sure are blind.'
